I applied there as well and have not heard! I feel like it might take the smaller private ones a little bit longer but not sure if that’s true or not?

Has anyone heard from Texas AM, Oregon State, or U of Illinois? It says University of Georgia doesn’t offer interviews but do they ever email saying they are interested? I’m a Canadian applicant and have no clue how competitive I am compared to an US applicant, so I don’t even know if I should rank somewhere that I didn’t get an interview invite for or somewhere that doesn’t even hold interviews like Georgia!

I heard from TAMU but not Oregon. Didn’t apply to Illinois

Maybe this will help ...

When trying to decide whether or not to rank a particular program, ask yourself one --and only one --question.
"Would I rather do an internship/residency at program X than not do an internship/resdiency at all?"

If yes ->: rank program
If no ->: don't rank program

That's it.

How competitive you think you are, where you think (or even know) they will rank you, whether you interviewed, ... none of that matters.
 
Has anybody heard from the NC State Medicine Emphasis Rotating Internship? I applied to both the regular small animal rotating and the medicine focused. I know that they don't interview for the regular rotating but they do interview for the medicine focused (invited applicants only). I am getting a little nervous that I haven't heard anything yet. If I don't get an invite to interview for their medicine focused internship, does that make it less likely that they will rank me and/or that I might match to their regular rotating? I guess my thought process is that if they don't like my application enough to interview me for the medicine focused internship, they also likely won't rank me for the regular rotating, but I guess that might not be accurate. Thanks in advance 🙂

It’s potentially two separate groups choosing for different positions…I would be willing to bet a small amount of money that medicine faculty get more input and are more involved in reviewing of the applicants in a medicine-focused rotating than they are for the regular rotating, so I don’t really think your chances at one affect the other. Or maybe it is the same people deciding both, who really knows besides the people at that program. I would recommend you not try to read into it too much.

I have also not heard anything and getting stressed! But I would say that I would not conflate the two. They may still consider you for the general rotating even if they don't for the medicine emphasis. Given there are only 2 positions for the medicine one, I think they are probably way more selective with interviews than they are for considering applicants for the general
 
What are people's thoughts about sending thank yous after interviews? I didn't for my internship interviews, but I have after visits/interviews for residency. I vaguely remember a previous thread recommending against it.

I usually send emails, but I have sent handwritten thank-you cards for positions I’m extremely interested in.
 
I think it’s unlikely to help if you do but also unlikely to hinder your app if you don’t. I think these things are definitely less expected nowadays than a decade ago. I interview residents for externships and when one does send a thank you, it’s like a momentarily “oh, that’s nice” and it’s appreciated, but it’s not going to make me accept that person over someone else or think about applicants any differently. But it’s always nice to be told you’re appreciated. It’s one of those things where the expectations are heavily influenced by geographic region and with the age of who you’re dealing with. But at the same time, sending a thank you email probably won’t hurt, and I’d rather send one they don’t care about than be the person who doesn’t send one when others did or it was expected. But I’m also raised in the south/midwest.

Finally, if I do not match anywhere, are all programs able to see my application packet if I decided to scramble? And can I go for any program, and not just the ones I applied for?

I have not heard from anyone personally, but I know Colorado and Florida have not sent out interviews yet and are reviewing applicants this week

I am also sus about this lol, but they have another public zoom meeting about the internship on Feb 11! I’m gonna attend it then & check out the vibe, I think its the best option at this point 🥴
 
Has anyone gotten an interview invite from UF?!?! Hi everyone! I am a fourth-year vet student in the midst of ranking and interviewing for a rotating internship through the MATCH. One of the programs I have applied to is UF's SA Rotating Internship. In the VIRMP, it states that an interview is not required but is encouraged, with the caveat that the admission committee invites only a set of applicants after packet review. Has anyone gotten an interview invite? I haven't at this moment and wanted to know if this is a bad sign 🙁 or I might still have a chance. Thank you in advance!!
 
Is it normal to be denied an interview because you didn't reach out to the current interns? I applied to one place and on their interview section on VIRMP it says that you can contact interns for an informal chat but that only top applicants are contacted for interviews. It does not say anything about contacting interns being a requirement for being considered for an interview later. I am disappointed because I obviously paid and used a spot to apply there but I hadn't yet reached out to the interns before they sent interview invites out. I know that it was a requirement because a classmate got an interview and the program director told her they only interview people who contacted the interns.

that strikes me as really odd, and i haven't heard of that at other places. if that really is a requirement and there wasn't a miscommunication/misunderstanding with your friend, then they should have made it clear. sorry it turned out like that for you ): hopefully it's a sign that you're meant to end up somewhere better for you!

That really, really sucks, but at the same time, an institution can use whatever criteria they want to choose their applicants. I wouldn’t say that is a common thing to narrow the field based upon, but there’s often so many applicants that places have to make very arbitrary-appearing cutoffs, whether that is a GPA cutoff they don’t advertise or something like this. I think it’s a pretty silly thing to choose by, especially since people may talk to other people, but that’s up to the program.

I agree that this is an odd way of weeding people out, but my first thought is that maybe they are trying to limit their interview pool to people really researching their program? That's a total guess. In theory it might help keep them from ranking applicants who are less likely to rank them highly/rank them back, assuming that speaking with current interns gave an applicant a really good impression. They may feel that speaking with current interns automatically implies you are more seriously interested in the program, though that's not always true.

That could backfire on them if that were their reasoning, but I can see trying to limit your pool to people that put in a little more effort to learn about your program.

If you go back a little bit I think 2 people said they got interviews. I also applied & haven’t heard anything. So maybe they will send out batches, or sent out interviews only last week 🤷🏼‍♀️ But you never know, make sure to rank places if you really wanna go there, even if you don’t interview, because you can always have a possibility to match.

Someone in my class has interviewed w UF for a rotating. Unsure if they interview everyone or not though.
 
When the last program you were waiting to hear from emails you and says "Sorry we actually filled the positions internally so we won't be doing external resident interviews this year".......... the rage I feel thinking about how I could have used that spot to apply literally anywhere else is so real 😂

NCSU medicine emphasis rotating check in-- has anyone heard from them? Is it inappropriate to reach out to ask if they will be inviting applicants to interview and if so, what the expected time frame is?

I externed at BluePearl recently and had spoke with the program director kind of in place of an interview. I don't know if they've sent invites out to others yet but from what I've heard talking to the current interns, it's less an interview and more just a chat about the program, your goals, etc.
