VIRMP 2026

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone gotten any more interest emails for small animal rotating internships? I got one from Michigan State, but haven't heard from any of the other programs I applied to.
Got one from Michigan, Iowa, and Colorado.

Has anyone else applied here for Carolina Vet Specialists SA rotating? Or have previously attended? Just wanted to hear more about their program (esp for surgery minded folks🙂)

I walked into them discussing ranking anesthesia applicants yesterday at school - don’t know if this info is useful to anyone here

Did you hear from Michigan on Wednesday like the other posters in the thread? Just wondering if emails are still rolling out
Yes, I heard this past Wednesday

A little late to the conversation - applying to SA rotating. Have so far heard from AMC, Ohio, Wisconsin, CSU, NCSU in that order.

Hi all! I wanted to ask if there is anyone here who went through any of the following programs for SA Rotating:
Oradell
Red Bank
Crown Veterinary Specialists
NCSU
UGA
University of Florida
Midwestern
Madison Veterinary Specialists
Angell Animal Medical Center
Garden State Veterinary Specialists

I have had interviews with almost all besides UF and then UGA and NCSU as they don't hold interviews, but I have seen a few people mention here that they have gotten emails from them recently (NCSU). I have spoken with a few people who have completed internships at some of these programs, but I would really appreciate anyone's honest input regarding their schedule, work/life balance, mentorship, caseload and any other info that you would care to share. I know the rankings are due soon and I am really struggling with my rank list. If it helps, I am looking to specialize in exotics/zoo med and apply for a specialty internship and/or residency afterwards.

Thanks! 🙂

I think I have my final ranking sorted, but still waiting to see if I hear from any more places in the next few days (giving up hope though lol).

Submitted my final ranking 🤢The wait begins!
impulsively submitted mine on friday while on the phone with my therapist LOL

I think you should rank how you want, don't let interest emails influence your order because there's no telling what they actually mean

I need to do my final sit down meditation to make sure I'm making the right decisions then I will soon be joining you in the never ending waiting game 🥴
Bruh I literally asked ChatGPT if there were any things I wasn't considering and it basically said "no. grow a pair and submit". To be fair I've had the same rank order for over a week since I have interviewed with all places that I applied to... my ranking wasn't changing 😆

Probably should have done this and not used AI but it's fine 😂

I'm not a current rotating, but did my rotating last year at one of those institutions. You're welcome to PM me. I have a very busy week on clinics but I'll make sure to get back to you before Friday.

I'm currently a rotating at one of these institutions, feel free to DM me!

Is anyone a current or past intern at UIUC or OSU? I have tried to contact the interns but have not gotten any responses and I'm getting stressed about where to rank things without chatting to someone!

I also have not heard from any of the 3 UIUC current interns I've contacted :/

Anyone have any insight to offer about the UMN rotating internship? Received an interest letter for them and trying to make ranking decisions! Feel free to DM me. Thanks in advance!

Which OSU, there are 3 of them.

Can anyone speak about Tennessee, Missouri, or Ohio? I haven't heard back from any current rotating interns and I mostly had questions about how ER is run 3:

Can anyone who has been through the scramble talk about what it was like/any tips?
I've linked an article that is a little older now, but I think most of the advice still stands. The terribly emotional moment of not matching is awful, so take a beat, but then keep moving. I recommend making sure that you have at least one mentor/reference who can support you that day - emotionally, but also in trying to get a position. Make sure they know when match day is (presumably they do as they are very involved in things, but some specialists are surprisingly detached from the match) and let them know of your intent to scramble it if comes down to it. Call/text them first thing in the morning and let them know the scenario. Ideally they may have some connections or be able to make supportive calls for you that may help in the scramble.
It's a stressful and emotionally draining time, but lots of people have found success in the scramble and matched to great positions so it definitely works out well for some.

Hey! I had someone from NCSU reach out to see if I had questions in the first few days after applications were submitted for internship. Did some people get an additional email that more explicitly expressed interest?

I was a rotating intern at one of these last year (not the same program as Sparrow), you can PM me.

I submitted my ranks (oof) and I have a couple of questions.

1. I'm curious how seriously interest emails should be taken? I haven't recieved any from any of the ones I applied to and interviewed for, but am hearing from others that they are getting interest emails from the places they applied for (not the same as mine). I only applied to private institutions.
2. I have been really swamped and overworked in my current rotation (which has been going on the entire length of when interviews were happening) and barely able to take care of myself. Because of this, I have spaced on sending "thank you for the interview" emails. Is this going to be counted against me? I guess I'm in the wallows of worrying I won't match to places because I didn't send them a thank you email.

I know this has been addressed a couple of times already, but I just need to hear it one more time 😅 I am planning to rank a couple of places in my top 5 that I did not receive an interview from, but I really like their programs. From how I understand it, if they do not rank me, the next place on my list (say #3 for example) moves up to my top choice and tries to match me there. Just trying to make sure that having places that did not interview me really high on my rank list over places that I probably have a better shot of matching with, will not hurt me.

Submitted and trying not to second guess myself too hard.

This is correct. Rank on your own personal preferences and nothing else.

Trying to commit to my final list (haven't hit the finalized button yet!!), but I am essentially down to ranking only 4 programs due to my partner's job and us being able to live together if I'm in any of those 4 programs. Otherwise, it will be very difficult for us to pay for two different rents, etc.

My question is: is it too terrible to only rank 4 programs?!?! I know I'm cutting my chances of matching very short, but I wanted to know if there is anyone else who has/is ranking just a handful of programs as well. Thank youuuu!

1. Idk it really depends on which programs you are referring to. I think academic programs are less likely to play mind games with applicants, private institutions are a different ball game. I had my own experience with a PP program sending out 'interest emails' en masse so sometimes they mean nothing.
2. I never cared if I got a thank you email or not after an interview, mostly because my thoughts/scorings were already written down and submitted by the end of the day of the interviews I was doing. It wouldn't have changed anything I thought about the applicant anyways. I imagine most others are the same because after a while, you all blend together and we forget who is who. I truly cannot fathom this being a reason someone wouldn't match, so try not to be so hard on yourself!

I only ranked four  I matched just fine, though none of my programs were academic (or maybe one was iirc, but it was a hail mary pass because my GPA sucked). You have a reason for only ranking four, I was the same in that I was choosy about where I was going to end up.

I'm in the exact same boat and it's definitely a major stressor. You're not alone!

Do programs typically email with a letter of interest at some point before ranks are due? I saw on last years VIRMP thread that people were getting interest emails (from academic institutions mostly I believe). Just wondering if anyone has got any already or knows anything more about this.
I have received these.
