then where do they get the protein coating from?
thanks

ok but dont they already have a protein membrane before entering the host cell? if not how do they hold the dna/rna material?

what are you asking here? are you confusing the capsid with enveloped vs. non-enveloped? or are you asking about late gene expression in regards to capsid formation?

yes the capsid is the envelope that encases the genetic material in a virus right? i am assuming the capsid has protein base, how can a virus create a orotein base if it doesnt have a ribosome?

Viruses use host ribosomes to make proteins for them. Imagine you want to bake a cake but don't have an oven. You sneak into someone else's house and use their oven...and in fact, you use their eggs, milk, and flour too (the amino acids).

You ask how they enter cells with the protein coating. That protein coating was acquired from a previous host.

1. viruses recognize and attach to certain markers located on the cell's membrane.
2. enter the cell
3. loses their protein coat, releasing enzymes and genetic material
-DNA incorporates with host genome
-RNA uses RT to make viral DNA which then incorporates into host genome
4. host machinery (nucleotides, enzymes, ribosomes) is arrested in order to reproduce itself (lytic) or it can stay incorporated (lysogenic) but under stress can enter lytic cycle.
5. cell lyses and releases many new virions.

in regards to an envelop, viruses can be non enveloped or enveloped. this refers to the capsid being lipid coated acquired from the golgi and outer membrane.
