I've heard that these drops that "get the red out" are not good for your eyes. Is this true?

they're bad in that their eleviating the symptoms and not the problem. They constrict your eyes blood vessels to make your eyes less red.... this is true. But, if your real problem is a bacterial infection or allergies... the drops really aren't helping you.

Hope this helps

The main problem with the "get the red out" drops is that some people use them as artificial tears. Of course that is bad b/c they constrict the vessels and don't really help with the dry eye.

Actually, the problem lies in the long-tern use of these products. The vasoconstrictor used in them, usualy low concentrations of phenylepherine, do their job and constrict the vessles. But, after it wears off and has been used repeatedly, the vessels will acutally dilate larger than they would have been; had the problem been addressed initially and the symptom not been chronically treated there would be no problem. This is a more common problem then you may think.
