Hi. So, I have a bit of an unusual question that I was hoping someone could offer some advice on. I am a Prelim IM PGY-1 at a hospital without an EM residency. I have been trying to set up an away rotation at another hospital that does have an EM residency to improve my chances for next year. I was able to get approval from my PD and the away hospital's EM PD. However, my GME office told me they would not be able to fund me for the rotation, and neither would the other hospital. And without someone to pay me, the away rotation is not possible, as I would not have malpractice insurance.

My question is this: has anyone else been in this situation and/or know of any place that I can obtain funding that would allow me to do this elective? Thanks!

Can you buy your own mal practice/tail for the month? Can you go without pay for 1 month or do this rotation during your vacation block?

In many residencies, it is tough to do "away" rotations because of the funding issue.

Also, keep checking the SAEM website for an open spot.
