I was just wondering what kinds of things you all are listing in the extracurricular and community activities section on VMCAS. I realize that things like volunteering and clubs go here, but it also says to list hobbies which makes me wonder. What kinds of hobbies will you put?

Thanks.

I've done some work in mixed-media art, so I put that in there as a hobby. I also put that I used to play tennis as a hobby before I was in a car accident.

So I'd say put in recreational sports--like that church softball league you might play in or even if you're a big runner or something--plus anything like photography, cooking, songwriting...anything like that, which you do seriously enough to answer questions about in your interview.

Agreed. I've trained in martial arts for quite a while, so I put that. I did not put things I used to do a lot but gave up years ago, like dance which I quit after high school, because I thought it would just sound kinda lame to include those.

I put dog training and agility, quilting, horseback riding, reading. Think that's it. I also put my volunteering for 4-H dog obedience and my annual Relay for Life involvement.

I actually got asked about my quilting. One of my interviewer's wives quilts, and he knew quite a bit about it.

To echo what others have said, I put my work with Habitat, all my undergrad student government type work, cooking, skiing, and probably some other stuff I'm forgetting.

Thanks, this has been helpful!
