What do you suggest for attire for the dinner the night before interview
I would recommend to come business semi-casual (No jeans)
So Boys: A nice Shirt, with nice pant and shoes (no tennis shoes); you don't have to do tie
So Girls: a nice suit without a blazer or a dress (not Charlotte Russ dress); most people i saw had a nice blouse with work pants.

🙂

From experience from last year IS, one of my classmates. They could email up to around 3 days before the interviews. Sadly, If people decide not to come, on interview day and say nothing. They will follow with the interview wait listed list (people who actually interview)
So if instate people don't show up to an interview, do they not take people off the waitlist?

To vetinprogress: Dress shirt and slacks. I wore black slacks, a dress shirt with sleeves rolled up, and also wore a tie. Most people were in the same boat, +/- the tie.

Any suggestions on hotels in area?
The Inn at Virginia Tech (it is pricey but right on campus and they would shuttle you to the vet school) and there is also a Hilton Garden Inn that is less than 4 minutes from the vet school.

I live and work in the Blacksburg/Christiansburg area, so if any of you have questions regarding hotels, restaurants, places to visit, etc., just message me or post on here. =)

^^ Same, I live in Blacksburg so if anyone needs help with rides or something, let me know! 🙂

Anyone hear of any movement on the OOS alternate list?

If you have a car or rent one. You can stay at Christiansburg; The Microhotel by Windham is nice. I stay there for mine and it was good.
The Inn is very expensive..... Try to get in touch with people here to get a ride to the location.
UBER is here, so you could do that too.

Has anyone heard about movement on the IS wait-list or received updates?

I was wondering if there was movement on the OOS wait list as well. I wish we could know what our position is so we know whether to hang on to hope or move forward...

For those of you living in or familiar with Blacksburg, what are the best coffee shops/restaurants in town close to campus? Anything else noteworthy I should check out while down there for my interview? Also, how bike-friendly is the town? I'm hoping that if I get in and end up going to VAMD I'll be able to bring my bike and bike to/from class and in/around town.

I go to undergrad there and I ride my bike everywhere, it is pretty hilly but very bike friendly. There is also the Huckleberry trail that goes to Christiansburg, it is a beautiful 5-mile ride, you should definitely check it out! Also, if you are a hiker, I can recommend some really nice hikes.
As far as coffee shops go, there is Mountain Mill downtown which has good coffee and Next Door Cafe that has really nice coffee, muffins, sandwiches etc. For restaurants, there is basically everything downtown- Mellow Mushroom has great pizza, or Benny's for GIANT delicious pizza, Pita Vera for great Mediterranean food, Rivermill has some nice affordable food, Moe's, etc.

Pretty bike friendly. My better half and I live near the Huckleberry and he bikes to/from campus pretty often.

Bollo's is my favorite coffee place. Small and quiet, kind of the townie place (I guess I'm a townie now, having spent almost over a decade here in total!)

For food, I recommend Cabo Fish Taco, The Cellar, or, if you're veggie/vegan, Gillie's, all are downtown right off of campus. If you can get further off campus at all there is also a great little hole in the wall Himalayan curry place near the University Mall, and for Thai/Viet, Cafe Mekong father down South Main Street across from Gucci Kroger (we have two Krogers in town, known as Ghetto Kroger and Gucci Kroger 😉 )

I have an update for anyone holding out hope! One of my friends from school is IS and received a call off the wait list today. 🙂
How lucky! Virginia resident?

Just cancelled my OOS interview. Hopefully one you get it!

Sorry for late response but there's a Microtel and Days Inn not too far from campus if you want cheaper options. The Microtel is only 13 minutes from campus.

Anyone going to the dinner Friday?

I won't be able to make the dinner 🙁

Hello SDN, long time lurker! I RSVP'd to the dinner, will be driving in 8hrs to make it

Probably a dress, blazer, and heels. Perks of having worked before going back to school, I have a business appropriate wardrobe.

Anyone know if there has been any movement on the OOS waitlist?

I have a Sunday interview and going to the dinner Saturday night!

Any movement on the IS interview wait list? If we haven't heard by now, are we going to? Should I call? Email? What's the protocol here?

I would probably call in your situation, just to see if you can get any additional information. Every time I've called the admissions office they've been very friendly.

(IS, interviewing 1/16)

Were you on the waitlist?

Assuming at this point I won't make it off the interview waitlist...sigh... 🙁

I am also on the waitlist, and haven't heard anything yet. Last year I applied, and was wait listed for interviews as well. They notified me that I was not pulled from the waitlist the Tuesday before interviews, so I was expecting to hear something from them yesterday. I didn't.

Yes they are the 16th and 17th, which is why I'm going nuts as well! I mean, last year they notified you before the interviews, even if you didn't get one. So I just keep telling myself to stay positive. No news isn't necessarily bad news. Again, I was shocked they didn't contact me yesterday, since that is what they did last year.
No, I haven't called them. Last year I got the rejection email around 3:00 pm, so I was planning on calling them today around that time if I still haven't heard anything.

I just called Joyce and she informed me that we have up until the end of tomorrow to find out. She said people have been cancelling their interviews (Mostly OOS) so she is still in the process of sending out invitations.

Do you know whether they are calling or emailing those who get off the wait list? Still holding on to hope!
