hey guys
just wanted to know that does volunteering at childrens mercy hospital make any difference ,i mean since it is not related to dentistry,does it make a difference?🙂 pls do reply......will highly appreciate any advices...

I meant get dental experience anywhere at all- community/free clinic, pvt practice, in a dental school...anywhere.

its gud idea to do volunteer work. i m frm Boston n its pretty difficult to get an DA/ observership. Hence I opted fr volunteer work here at MASS GEN HOSPITAL. Best part is u can attend seminars tht r held... just talk to the person in charge of volunteer work... tell thm u r intentions n aspirations.. guess wht i would be recieving a certificate fr volunteer work at the end of it. looks gud on resume... hope this helps.

thanks la fea and mission dds for your inputs .....so basically any kind of voluntary work apart from dentistry should also be fine ...thats my understanding.....because children mercy has a kind of 1 yr commitment ...so dont want to get in to it if it wont look good on resume😀.........so should it be fine to volunteer like say story reading etc etc for children and stuff like that?😕

My cousin does that, but she is actually in the process of becoming a teacher. I do not think that would be an appropriate choice.

I agree with kal ka dentist..
U r volunteering somewhere so that u can put that stuff on ur resumme. I don't think volunteering at such institution would help u anyway in relation to ur experince..
as it's a noble cause if u r doing it in addition to DA/observership I am sure that would count..

i observe in a dental clinic twice a month,so is it a good idea to couple it up with this volunteer option?

Increase ur observing time and days and the volunteer part definitely helps you to highlight ur people skills and how good u are with kids and ideal to pursue in pedodontics😀 Good SOP too !!

increase ur "observer" time may be from 2 days a month to 2 days a week and ur volunteer job would help u even better.

But the thing is that i have take are of my son in the 1st place and 2ndly its my understanding that you have to put in a total of 80-100 hrs in observing.....and after a while the dentist also starts asing how long o u ant to do it.......so was trying to keep it twice a month for atleast 6 months.....anywayz i am planning to start wth the volnteer thing though......and i do agree that i should inc the observng hours.....is t a good idea to observe in 2-3 diff clinics or just stick to one?🙄

If you can go to 2/3 different places, why not?
I, personally went to the 1 place. Though it was pretty much full time.
