So I know it's better to commit to a few activities vs. a bit of everything but I've been doing volunteering with an organization (Boston Cares) that allows you to pick many different positions/places without necessarily committing to one area. So I've done teaching/homeless shelters/environmental clean up. Is this okay considering it's with one organization? (This is just for my non-clinical volunteering, I'm committed to a clinical volunteering position)

I don't see why it would be a problem, it certainly wouldn't be a negative. I would have some longer-term clinical volunteering in addition to the Boston Cares group though, if I were you.

why are they mutually exclusive? volunteer at a few different places where you have different tasks (clinical, non-clinical, tutoring, organizing, clerical, etc.) so you have exposure to different environments and utilize different skills but focus in on one or two specific volunteer experiences (at least one should be clinical) where you commit most of your time.

thanks for the posts so far, i edited some info on my last post

does anyone else want to contribute? 😀

I don't really see this being a problem - if you're asked about it in an interview, you could easily just tell them about the organization and how you were allowed to pick from various sites - legitimate reason to have volunteered at several different places.
