Hi,
I know everyone usually volunteers at a hospital when they are pre-med. Well, I don't really like the hospital environment and I was wondering if anybody had any other ideas. Where else can you volunteer if you don't enjoy the hospital? I really want to be a peditrician and I love working with kids but I'm a bit confused on what to do. By the way, I just moved to FL and I really want to get involved...Any suggestions !!!

Thanks everybody...
Looking forward to your input!!!!

There are a million and one places you could volunter. How about?

tutor kids (try America Reads or America Counts)
Assuming you're a college student, you could be a peer health educator
Find a clinical volunteering job that's not in a hospital (hospice, clinic, etc.)

i dont care what specialty you are interested in--if you dont like the hospital setting, maybe you should reconsider your career plans

im not saying that a physician is only limited to working in a hospital, but an unfavorable attitude towards hospitals is a good indication of deeper (more significant) sentiments towards the field of medicine itself.

And you're sure as heck going to spend some long hours there in med school and residency. Plus, most peds round at hospital every day, or close, for their patients who are hospitalized.
