Volunteering ended

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm confused. Why does a volunteer gig show up on your transcript? That sounds like an internship. Which is bad if you got cut from it...

What actually shows up on your transcript? That you did the gig for fall/winter/spring quarter, or that you were let go?

That sounds completely harmless to me
It just looked like you passed a course. You probably shouldn't list it as an experience though

So it’s not really volunteering. It’s a class with a grade(P/F). What’s the name of the class? I wouldn’t count it as volunteering because what you did was required for the class? Just find something else and start fresh. And cut back on your activities if you can’t keep up with everything.

The only reason they assign it as a class is because the clinic requires biweekly meetings to talk about clinic. I just want to clarify that it's not really a class and it's not an internship either, it's straight up volunteering like you do in a hospital but this is in a clinic for the underserved (hence the popularity). It's analogous to getting units for research
By weekly meetings to talk about clinic, shows up on your transcript. I’d say that’s not volunteering. Even if your school doesn’t advertise it as volunteering, because it shows up on your transcript with a pass fail grade it may not have any assigned credits but there are zero credit classes. I think if you list that is volunteering medical schools might view it as a class. I may not include that as volunteering. If it wasn’t on your transcript then the situation you described seems innocent enough...

You know what, list it as volunteering and describe it as school-affiliated clinic. If asked in interview, explain but do not get defensive. You should be fine, that does not look deterimental.

Should I still list it as an experience?
Assuming you had a decent number of accumulated hours, I think you'd be fine to list the time you were on the clinic premises providing a community service as "volunteer" (not including the weekly meetings to talk about the clinic). For full transparency, mention the curricular affiliation. Since the course was one term in duration, there is no reason to mention being cut due to inadequate hours. That the experience is on your transcript backs you up.

None of us can tell you what number of hours looks decent. How many hours did you put in each week minus the group meeting hour times the number of weeks you participated. Very easy to figure out. If asked you could tell the truth or some form of the truth. Like there were lots of students applying and you weren’t selected.

I agree, I won’t put the hours down while I was in the meetings, but how many hours would you classify as decent? I feel like if I don’t put this activity down in my experiences section and adcoms notice it on my transcript, it would look fishy. Also, if asked in an interview as to why I only volunteered with this clinic for one semester, how do I reply?

What @candbgirl said. Also, what was your role?

Role was mainly helping to check patients in, getting their vital signs, and helping the clinic during down time.
What percent of the time did you have patient contact (which is clinical volunteering) vs non patient-related duties? Was it at least 50% of the time?

Can you provide a ballpark figure for total "volunteer" time so I can tell you if it's "a decent number" worth listing (being sure it's a number to which your Contact will attest)?
