I was wondering what kind of extracurricular activities/experience are considered "standard" for med schools, and what did those admitted to med school do for their experience?
It's rather standard for accepted students to spend a minimum 3 years in a third world country caring for AIDS patients. Any more or less time than this and you will be rejected from every allopathic school and will have to apply DO...also, it's pretty standard now that premeds help countrys rebuild that we have bombed...might wanna check out Iraq for a summer volunteering opportunity...Otherwise, your screwed!
wannabe, I think the pre-allo and pre-osteos might be able to help you better. I can't quite remember how much I volunteered, but I think most people work for at least a year in some type of clinical setting for a few hours per week, in addition to the other activities they are involved in. It's a good idea to do activities that you feel strongly about, and not just because you need to for applications.
