Dear Prospective Participant:
Hello, my name is Mel Srolovitz, and I am from Thomas Jefferson University’s Department/Division of Health Science & Clinical Practice within the Jefferson College of Health Professions. I am inviting you to consider participating in a research study titled Preclinical Medical Students’ Descriptions of the Influence of Palliative Care Education on their Understanding of Palliative Care.
The purpose of this study is to explore how U.S. preclinical medical students describe the influence of palliative care education on their understanding of palliative care. Any preclinical medical student studying within the United States is eligible to participate. This study may benefit future medical education by identifying gaps that exist in palliative care curriculum for medical students, and inform ways to assist future clinicians in feeling more prepared to care for seriously ill patients. You may or may not receive a direct benefit from participating.
If you choose to participate, you will be asked to complete an anonymous survey which includes both demographic questions and open-ended questions which focus on your palliative care education and knowledge. Participation is expected to take approximately 25-35 minutes.
Your participation is entirely voluntary. You may choose not to participate, may skip any question that you do not wish to answer or that makes you uncomfortable, and may stop participating at any time without penalty or loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled. Your care at Jefferson will not be affected if you choose not to participate.
Any information you provide will be kept confidential to the extent permitted by law. Your name will not be identified or associated with specific responses in reports, presentations, or publications resulting from this research. The data collected will be anonymous, and no PHI, IP addresses, or participant emails will be collected. Additionally, all data will be saved on a password-protected laptop via a cloud-based server. After three years, erasing and over-writing of data will occur.
If you decide to participate, please click on the following link:

By proceeding to and submitting the survey, you are indicating that you have read and understood the information provided above, that you voluntarily agree to participate in this research study, and that you consent to participate. If you do not wish to participate, simply do not proceed with the survey.
Thank you for considering participation in this study.
Sincerely,
Mel Srolovitz, MS, MM, MT-BC, FT
