vs. U

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Stuck between two programs I loved while interviewing– I was fortunate to receive a scholarship at Michigan which makes costs basically the same since UNC has a lot of random fees on top of tuition and standard fees such as separate summer tuition, university fee and dental school fee. I am pretty sure I want to specialize, but I know it is possible whichever of the two programs I attend, so not really thinking about that as a factor.

UNC
Pros:
- Wonderful facility
- Students seemed a lot more close knit/friendlier
- Familiarity, since I went there undergrad
- selection feels a lot more personal since there are 1on1 interviews
Cons:
- Completely revamped clinical curriculum starting next year; sounds good in presentation but not sure how it will play out
- Things I have heard on from UNC alumni speaking of the decreasing quality of UNC dentists the past few years
- Didn't see this myself, but have heard multiple times that UNC students were conceited
- lack of diversity in the class

Michigan
Pros:
- Strong reputation that showed when talking with students and alumni, and seeing their well-established curriculum
- Grew up in NC all my life so new city experience is appealing
- Seems like there are opportunities for community outreach and getting experience in specialty Im interested in through their "Selectives" experience
Cons:
- Old facilities, but new building expected to finish soon
- Ann Arbor's campus seemed kind of congested
- Students seemed a bit more stressed and sad
since they are the same price, I would go with where you are going to practice in the future
and sounds like the cons are worse for michigan
