Also just remembered one of my interview experiences right now. This is such a random process. I mean here we are waiting on the edges of our seats for a school to call us, while at one school i interviewed at (i really can't name it), the interviewer was late, barely looked at my application, read it in front of me, and basically asked me what to write in my own eval. 'So like, you think you have scientific aptitude, should i give you a 10?😵'. I think i said 'yes' to see what would happen, and that was the way the rest of interview went

This process...😛

Does anyone know if UCLA has an official WL? I haven't heard back anything at all since my early/mid February interview. I am assuming I have been informally waitlisted/that there is no official WL. If anyone can offer insight, I would appreciate it!

Also -- I have seen conflicting reports from users about whether UCLA has had WL movement or if the admission committee has met yet. @gyngyn I'm listening to you. Your official information is that WL movement (informal or otherwise) HAS occurred, right?

Thanks to all <3

They don't call it a waitlist but it basically is. "They won't tell interviewer no until at least July 1st." Dean Hall claimed 30-40% of matriculants get accepted after May 1st in the past. But it's been tumbleweeds on SDN. I'm curious to know what @gyngyn has to say too. I'm just hoping they are behind.

I haven't seen anything lately from UCLA.

literally useless since anyone can lie on it.

I think people have better things to do (or at least I hope) than to voluntary fill out a form and lie on a waitlist tracker hahaha that accomplishes nothing for them even more so since it's anonymous

Hey @gyngyn I'm not sure if there is any overlap, but have you seen any movement from Georgetown? Thanks in advance!

@gyngyn Even though I got accepted off the waitlist a couple weeks ago and you haven't ever directly helped me, I'm still active on this thread and I've seen you throughout other threads on SDN in the past and I just wanted to say that I really admire all the help and information you provide to everyone 🙂 Thank you for all that you do

@gyngyn I know this is super annoying so feel free to disregard, but any news from Penn State? Do schools usually just admit people as they get spots or wait for a few to open and then send invites?

I think it's school dependent or WL type dependent. I think if a WL is ranked you can easily know who's next in line and each person who drops can probably be replaced relatively quickly. I think if it's unranked and a committee has to meet they probably wait until there's a significant number of spots to fill

We don't have much overlap with Penn St., I'm afraid.
I put everything I can see in my daily (weekday!) posts.

Does anyone think there's any point to sending a school a "hey I'm still super interested in you" email to try and get off a waitlist? I feel like if I'm completely silent they'll think I've moved on, but since I wouldn't have any updates/new information I'm not sure if it's worth it.

If you have an acceptance at a "better" or cheaper school and the waitlist school has an unranked waitlist and accepts such letters, it might have a minor effect.
I must caution that I have seen these emails have a negative effect depending on the wording and content.

Thank you for responding!! Are there any specific "negative" things you would avoid? I'm thinking a very short letter just reiterating my strong interest in the school and why I feel like it's a good fit for me, not anything about comparing it to other programs or schools

Not sure how accurate this is but I keep hearing that a ranked waitlist isn’t really a ranked waitlist as in you don’t really get off based on rank. Schools want to keep demographics constant so if someone else with those demographics gives up their spot and you’re in the general area on the list then you have a good chance

That sounds ok.

I would also like to know if there are any specifics you think should be avoided. I wrote a fairly long letter of intent but expressed the intent portion in the first paragraph in case they were primarily interested in that (stating I know how busy they must be, and I’ve included the main point in bold letters for their convenience.) The rest of the time I spent expressing specific reasons I felt connected to the program and perceived a strong degree of “fit,” and I weaved that into an update about what I’ve been learning about healthcare at my current internship. Wondering if the length may have caused groans regardless of the quality of content. Thank you for your time!
