Just had abstracts accepted for conference presentation and publication in a supplemental issue. Now, to update the WL's or save for updates for this round of applications....
 
I'm trying to decide if it's helpful or not for people who get in off the waitlist to come back and ebulliently declare not to give up hope. It's kind of an ex post facto thing if you get my meaning.

If you have updated lately I am not sure it will help much.

I only say something when things are published/presented, if I had a dollar for every time something that was accepted was delayed or otherwise had the something happen and it did not get published, I would have enough to take @gyngyn out to eat as a thank you for having to answer all our crazy questions.

OMG. This.

Seriously, the number of times I've had when I am pretty much done with a final draft of a manuscript after multiple cycles of review... and my PI is like "WAIT! HALT! We should really add this section... and this analysis... or this experiment... because it would make the paper sooooo much stronger." I'm just like :stop:

story of my life..i suspect it's some kind of 'trusting undergrad is especially hard!' thing.

anyway, i wonder why the waitlist movement is esp. slow this year...

I'm trying to be optimistic haha. Last year I rotted in WL hell until the bitter end. I'm hoping to get off a wait list this year reaaaaaaaaaallly bad. I keep checking my phone today but I forgot it's Saturday

I guess we could ask @gyngyn if this is turning out to be a bad year for waitlists, or too early to tell?
 
I think it was said earlier it is looking like a slow year, and for sure a slow year in CA. I'm going to start prewriting my secondaries tomorrow for this next cycle.

Happened to me in graduate school and after I graduated. Had everything from book chapters pulled, actual books pulled, not to mention actual journals.

I am still waiting on something to be published that I submitted... oh... like 2008 or something. It's been in press that long.

A book chapter pulled has to be brutal, you are already waiting forever on them anyway. I submitted one Jan 2013 and its finally getting published this August. Waiting since 2008 is bonkers.

Hahaha I know the feels. I'm over the waiting thing though, if they take me they take me, if they don't it's not the end of the world. However, I've been checking my emails for the new jerseys I bought that haven't shipped yet!!! It's been a week!😡

Well it took something like 5 years for them to publish the first three and I was one of the last submitters. This time I was one of the first people to submit. I should contact the publisher and find out if they are any closer to getting it finished. I am not holding my breath though.
 
Got my first acceptance yesterday in the mail! Best moment of my life...I still don't believe I am going to be a DOCTOR! Also found out I got Navy HPSP a few nights before, so its all so surreal
 
Anyone know about how University of Toledo's waitlist is moving? I know it was prioritized (high-middle-low) recently.
 
Waitlisted at 2 md schools and accepted to a do school. I am really torn between reapplying or looking forward to going the do path, but I guess it's too late now to think up a new ps and new activities to reapply this year.

I applied to one the first time and then never again because at the DO interview I was told that because I was transgender (and thus am not male nor female) and DO schools need a balanced class for OMM that DO schools cannot accept me. I have never had so much disrespect in my life as that interview. Never.
 
I am in a situation where I have been accepted to an MD school & am on the ranked waitlist for another. I would really love to go the ranked waitlist school but after being placed on the waitlist in April, I haven't heard a single thing. I need to start committing for housing, transportation, etc for the school where I've been accepted, but would 99% go to the other school if they called me in the next few weeks. I've sent one combined update/"letter of intent" (that no one on at admissions acknowledged) , and I know that I had a really strong interview at this school (my stats don't match up to their averages though).

Should I send one last gasp letter to this school, basically for peace of mind in the future that I gave it my best shot, or just wait it out? I'm just debating this and would like some opinions on what to do.

Might as well? You gotta have that peace of mind. You got nothing to lose now. I've been sending interest letters since I'd rather err on the side of trying too hard than not trying at all.

I'm in your same shoes except for two schools. I, like you, am grateful for the acceptance but wish that I could get into any of my dream schools. I say go for it (I did) but to be honest with you, i'm already making arrangements with the school i'm accepted at. I know movement can continue and whatnot and anything is possible, but once the first large waves of movement happen (or practically no movement for some schools), it gets harder to get that acceptance.

Congratulations on the acceptance though!
 
So...would winning a regional hackathon / programming competition be noteworthy enough for an update letter? 😛
 
Thanks for your input! Yeah, you're both right. I'm sure it won't impact a thing but at least I will have no lingering feelings of What if?

It's just a dirty dirty feeling to send a note to a school while simultaneously making living plans, etc at another. I am extremely grateful to have the acceptance and feel very lucky tbh. Good luck to everyone on this thread, SDN has definitely helped me navigate this insane, lengthy process.

That sounds like an awful school that you applied to... I've never heard of something like that happening.

Is this true?!!! I am truly OUTRAGED if it is. Please tell me which state that school is located. I would be FURIOUS if that happened me or someone I know. Please, report this to someone. The department of education would love to hear this.

You are brave everyday by being who you truly are. Please muster up the courage to report this because this discrimination will continue if you don't speak up.

I did report it! No one gave a rat's behind.

It was in Georgia which should explain it. I also told my physicians (DOs!) who were pissed on my behalf.
 
I was recently rejected at a school where I was on the top 3rd of the WL.
They were having so little movement that they made another much much much shorter WL.

Is there a logical reason why though?

Like the fact that half the country was shut down and many people cancelled interviews at schools they were less likely to attend?

I don't know I am just trying to figure it out so I could feel better about myself.
 
Is there any reason why schools can't tell us where we are ranked on the wait list? I am on two wait lists that are ranked. However, they will not say where you are on the wait list. I think it would be helpful for all of us if we knew where we stood on the wait list. It is just very stressful hoping to be pulled off when you don't even know where you are. If I knew where I was, I would be able to only focus on the next cycle and have a a realistic picture of my chances of getting taken off the wait list.

Transgender is not a protected class under civil rights act, so it sucks and you can't do anything about it unless the institution higher ups want to act upon it. Sorry to hear that.

Or even providing general info about the waitlist if you're on an unranked one as well. Just communicating how the waitlist movement is moving, how many people are on the waitlist and how many they expect to pull off it.
