So I am currently on 5 waitlists and want to submit an additional letter of rec from one of my professors. Should this letter be submitted via amcas or sent directly to the schools at which I am waitlisted? Also, if it is to be emailed directly should that be done by my professor or by myself?

Each school has a different policy or method so check the waitlist emails and the school portal for how to do this.

1) Official LORs must come thru AMCAS to the schools and I would assume at most schools the deadline for submitting LORs has passed

2) sending a third party letter (LOR) directly to a school would violate AMCAS rules. While most schools would do nothing about this but technically they are supposed to investigate and possibly report it.

3) Since you are already on waitlist, a new LOR wouldnt go thru any evaluation or review. you are already approved by the adcom, you are waiting solely for space. your qualifications are no longer an issue

4) for schools that allow updates, you should send a short letter directly noting your grade updates.

I don't know how privy you are to each school's rules, etc, but would this be applicable to BU and UCI?

But some schools tell you to email updates like new LORs to their school email in their wait list letters?

Some schools, like NYMC, state directly on their admissions portal that unofficial letters of rec can be emailed just as an update would. It would be pretty bad if they were asking applicants to violate AAMC rules

If I were the OP I would investigate the portals, website or call to ask, if they don’t have an official policy I wouldn’t send it
