I got waitlisted by my top choice among schools I interviewed at (and top 3 or 4 choice given any program in the country). One other school I interviewed at is a close second, but it's mostly location v program and I think program is going to win.

Any suggestions? Harass them monthly and let them know they're my top choice?

yeah, and make a clear promise that if you are accepted you will matriculate.

This is my major hang up. I'm 99% sure I would choose this school if matriculated. It's got amazing resources for any type of research I'd be interested in and both the MD and PhD side of things clicked with me better than any other program I've interviewed at.

The only downside is it's in a city I've spent most of my life in. Now I'd have no problem with another 8 years in this city, it's a fine city. There's just another school that clicked almost as well and the idea of a change of scenery is just tempting enough to introduce that 1% of doubt.

I'm sure if I made the promise, I would not only end up living up to it, but decide that is what I want to do promise or not. But I feel bad making that promise with any sort of doubt. I guess I just need to do some quick soul searching.

So I suppose the point of this post then is to get people to back up the voice in my brain saying "Don't be stupid. A change of scenery is not worth passing up on a program that is a perfect fit. Residency, fellowship, and the working world will let you change your scenery to your heart's content."

Heh, just typing this out kind of cleared up the issue. 😛
