anyone who's been waitlisted at UConn before.....I've just been told that Im in the middle third of the alternate list......yet that might change because they have not finished interviewing yet.....

so does UConn ever get to its middle third??? and does UConn reject people or is everyone on the alternate list?

WHOA, they rank the alternate list? the alternate list IS the waitlist? now i'm very scared

how did you find out the rank...did you call them? i'm confused b/c last year they called it a waitlist and said what third i was in with a snail mail letter...this time it was just a short email saying "alternate"

i emailed lisa in the admissions office and she said they would make decisions in mid-april. i think i'll have to give a call on monday and ask about this ranking business!

(one SDNer (rogue synapse) posted a pre-interview rejection recently....rejection occured a while back though)

Oh wow....that's interesting. I'm so curious to see what third I'm in. I'm glad they told you! It would make things so much easier on me if I knew what third I was in! Please post any new information!!

In the past, meaning a few years back when I applied, they said first third had a decent shot of getting in and middle third really depended on how deep they needed to go into the list. I don't know how things have been the last couple of years, but I wouldn't say its over until August and classes begin. I also don't know how many people are usually in each third of the waitlist. Good luck to all!

i emailed dr. sanford to see if he could tell me the approximate position that i am in on the alternate list....i think the alternate list is the same thing as waitlist.....he told me that i am in the middle third, and that the letter explaining that is on the way this coming week....

i guess that similar letters whill reach you guys next week too. it seems that they made a tentative list of ranked alternatives recently.....

good luck to you guys...it seems that the middle third is a coin toss.....

Yes, the list is broken into thirds and you should be told in your letter which third you are in. There is no way to predict obviously, but in the past the top 1/3 supposedly have had a good shot. And to echo beanbean, it ain't over 'til it's over, i.e. August. So don't give up and keep the antacid handy. 😉

Good luck.

are you kidding me? i was told final decisions were going to be made in mid-april, and this is after the email said decisions would come in feb/march? what's with this letter telling me i'm on a list i knew i was already on 😕 😡

well...as long as they place me at the top 😀

The wailist thing can go on and on...know people in the middle 1/3 who got in in June. It depends on the movement of other waitlists. Some people have been called day(s) before the start of classes.

Guess why you shouldn't put all your eggs in the one proverbial basket.

uconn can be my proverbial basket anytime 😉

i'm not really sure what that's supposed to mean, but i said it anyway!

i feel like emailing dr. sanford b/c this is what i'm getting so far.....

the alternate list IS the waitlist...correct?
the final determinations that they were supposed to give us a month ago, but are actually coming in a week are not actually "accepted or not" decisions, but "you are here on the waitlist" decisions......?

with that said, i also think i shouldn't actually email dr. sanford since these decisions will be coming very shortly.

this is dr. sanford's reply to my email:

The Committee has placed you as a middle third alternate. The
official letter should reach you this week. At this time I cannot give
you a rank since we have not finished with interviewing and ranking all
candidates. I will be able to give you a better idea about your
placement in late May.

so they are sending out "official" letters informing alternate applicants of their approximate position on the list this week. cp jones, you are right, you should probably wait to get that letter before contacting dr. sanford. good luck to you. i am not looking forward to spending another 2 months waiting for the final decision but then again i have to start AMCAS again and study for the MCAT's too......

yea, i'll wait then. that is annoying though to wait so long, i feel the same way that although i have a few "chances" open...i can't wait up on doing the amcas again.....good luck to you too
