Okay, so I decided to get up this morning and make something of myself. So, I've become the founder of the Waitlisted Club. I figure this will be a super EC to include in my update letters...

Anyone else wanna join??

I would like to join. 0 acceptances, multiple waitlists, going crazy.

I already have a membership to the other waitlist thread, but I guess joining this one won't hurt.

But before I sign up can you please give me a list of the benefits/perks that come with my membership?

Examples: :
Do I get a seat on Board of Directors?
Vote to Elect Board members?
Discounts on magazines/vacation packages/movie tickets?

I'd be honored to be a charter member! With 3 waitlists, 0 acceptances, a handful of pre-interview rejections -- I think I meet the minimum requirements.

Do we have a secret handshake? If not, I propose a middle finger salute in the direction of those who have rejected us, followed by a slight turn with hands clasped in prayer/begging supplication to those who are still deciding our fate. Falling to one's knees is optional, but will be taken as a true sign of a dedicated/truly desperate member of the Waitlist Club.

Count me in, Aphrodite!

Benefits of Membership:
-it's FREE!
-your membership NEVER expires
-you get to bash any school you want
-you get to be in the same club as Aphrodite (NOTHING could possibly beat that) :D
-you have the satisfaction of knowing you joined the best Waitlisters Club out there
-there are NO stipulations
-you can bribe Aphrodite for a seat on the Board of Directors (she's quite easy to please)
-and many others which I best not advertise at this point or membership will skyrocket.

I'm still working on getting the free prizes together...after all I only founded the club a half-hour ago... Just give me some time... :)

Yay! I get to be a member and hopefully I can get a leadership position here. That way I can send it out to schools that have waitlisted me, and they can see I have good leadership potential.

sign me up, now I can send a letter to the schools I'm waitlisted at to update my "activities" since so much else has changed during my senior year.

Is everyone shy?? I thought the membership turnout would have been much higher by now. Hmmm, I guess I'm doing something wrong...

Come on people...join the bandwagon! (This is why I didn't go into advertising.) :D

Aphrodite,
What school other than UAB do you owe these honors to?

we'll need our own 'Waitlisted Club smilie'

I'll join ya!

Oooh oooh - can I join too? O acceptances, 1 waitlist, 1 possible waitlist (haven't heard yet).

Also, sign me up as an officer of the Waitlisted club! I need to pad my application with EC's. :) How about Public Relations Officer? Oh, and the club will need a more formal name for our applications - how about "Premeds with Great Expectations?". I know it's lame. Someone needs to think of something better.

So who's going to be in charge of writing official LOR's from the club to the waitlist schools? :)

i think the membership would expire once accepted by med school. :)

I'll join, 2 waitlists, no acceptances, and 9 pre-interview rejections!

I would like to volunteer as the club's VP: 8 waitlists and counting...

I shouldn't complain because I do have some acceptances, but I've been waitlisted at all my top choices...including numero uno--Penn...

Count me a member of this club...maybe it'll confer some positive karma!

i'm in.

3 waitlists no acceptances

Aphrodite,

you can be the founder but I want to be the goddess of waitlisted club.

I have SEVEN waitlists with NO acceptances..

Come on, pass over the crown...

one waitlist, one CCL list.

i belong to way to many clubs here on SDN. maybe i'll join the acceptance club soon and leave you punks in the dust! (relax, it's pretty funny if you leave your emotions out of it).

Mr. Caveman, I still have yet to approve your membership... So, if you want a chance to desert us, you better suck up to the founder (which happens to be *ahem* me)!

Freakin' FOUR WAITLISTS and 0 Acceptances. I'm going even more crazy.

add me to the club. five waitlists and ZERO acceptances. arrrrrhhhh...

Oh my....and I thought that I was bad with one waitlist. Some of you have seven and eight? I'd be going crazy. I think you guys should make your own club and take over this one. Ok bad joke. Sorry. I am waiting for my letters and my humor has gone down the drain. I am currently applying for membership here...but I don't plan to become president pro-temp. Sorry guys.

Oh and I forgot, HARVARD laughed at me.

and why would't they..you're from UM!

aphrodite, as long as you're not (herm)aphrodite, i'll suck up to you and beg for admission into your medi---i mean--into your club....

I still haven't earned the right to join this club, as I don't even have a waitlist spot (let alone an acceptance) at this point.

But I want to pass along a word of encouragement. If you have 3 or more waitlist positions at second-tier private schools, I really think you're going to be okay as long as you continue to show interest in those schools.

I already got an acceptance, but I am on the waitlist for my first choice school--University of Miami. :( Hopefully, I'll get in soon. Here's to wishful thinking :p

Okay, here's a list of benefits upon membership...

--You get a chance to go spelunking in Caveman's cave. :D
--You get free tickets to Rxfudd's concerts (he's a rockstar in case you didn't know...).
--I coerced Scooby Doo (while he was inebriated, so he may deny this at some point in time) into sharing his supply of Scooby snacks w/ us. Apparently, these snacks are like nothing we've had before...and they're appealing to the taste buds of Homo sapiens.

I have to go, but I'll finish this later... :)

Hey Aphrodite,
How about adding to the list of outstanding benefits (some of which were absolutely irrestible  ) a T-shirt saying "I studied my ass off for three years, tamed the MCAT, wrestled with AMCAS all summer, went through the drudgery of interviews, dealt with waitlists, and all I got was this stinking T-shirt  " Well, you get the point. "Bitter and highly frustrated?"---What makes you say that?

CANES2006•••••Yep this is me. I humbly apply for a spot on the esteemed and ever so elusive, "The Waitlist Club".
My qualifications include three wailist position, countless rejections and not, I repeat not a single, acceptance.
Again, I urge the Committee to accept my application and accept me for the class of 2006 (OOPS HERE I GO AGAIN, DAMN TOO MANY LETTERS OF INTENT).

Can I join too???? I have six waitlists, but am very good spirited about it! I can bake a mean batch of cookies for meetings....

PLAN TO SPEED UP WAITLIST MOVEMENT!!

Okay, it's been 6 days since this club's started. While the others are putting their energies into what schools they will be going, we shouldn't waste all our energies waiting and stressing out!! We gotta do something to increase our chances of getting off the waitlist or at least speed up this wrenching processes...

Here's what I propose: we write an appeal to those who have multiple acceptances and post it in a thread to persuade the applicants to withdraw from all the schools they know they won't be attending. True that some applicants are waiting for financial packets but I'm sure many more are just lazy in their complacency. And I am sure there are some out there that just enjoy counting their acceptance and will most likely wait till May 15th to being withdrawing. We have to target the latter 2.

Please remember one thing while you write the appeal.. they have every right to hold as many spots as they want and it is their generosity that they are withdrawing earlier than necessary, we should be thankful.

Quite frankly i suck so badly at communicating through writing (many pre interview rejections prolly do to suckekeke 2ndaries) So, I will need your help in writing this.

Our approach has to be persistent, touching, and gratifying to the applicants.

Here's my 3 step plan:
1.) we write a touching appeal (1st post)
2.) we bump it once in a while with requests for schools we want pple to withdraw  (we should pace ourselves with requests to keep the thread constantly on page 1)
3.) we should thank those who withdraw form schools they will not go to and giving us all a better chance.

I figure the longer the appeal stays on, the more impact it will be on their conscience :D

Feel free to make any changes/suggestions to this!

I'll start the appeal:
•••quote:•••
Suggested thread topic: Fellow applicants with multiple acceptances

Suggested appeal:

Dear applicants who have many acceptances,

Congrats on being accepted to medical school! We can only imagine how great it must be to know that you will have somewhere to go this fall. However, many of us are still waitlisted and it is agonizing… The uncertainty… it really sucks. We know that after May 15th , many of us would hopefully be pulled from the waitlist . However, every day is like an eternity for us.

We would be very thankful if you would take the time to carefully consider your acceptances and withdraw from schools that you will not attend. We know and understand that many of you are waiting for financial packets from schools, but those of you with several acceptances should be pretty sure which schools you can let go. Every school that you let go will help someone on the waitlist. The sooner you withdraw, the sooner we can plan vacations, start eating, and live normal lives again. Thank you for being understanding and thoughtful.

-The Waitlist Club 2002•••:p
edits: Change in suggested topic. I think I will post this thread soon after further input from Aphrodite and a few of you members. If more changes/suggestions are made, either post em here or PM me =)

Update I've PMed a few of you guys. Please let me know what you think!

I've posted the thread! It started off a bit controversial but i've edited it a bit. http://www.studentdoctor.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=010774
Now all I need is for you to post requests of schools you hope people will beging to withdraw, keep the page bumped with requests!

Hero, check your PMs. :)

I want to join too. :p If I don't and don't have an outlet to vent, I will probably explode. I am so miserable these days. I'm on 2 waitlists and will probably be placed on a 3rd b/c my interview date was so late in the game (3/18).

I've tried not to think about it and tried to abstain from aimlessly surfing each school's website. I feel like a zombie! But on the upside, I'm living vicariously thru my bf, who just got into Harvard Law School. we are so psyched.

Hero, Aprhodite, and other members of The Waitlist Club 2002:

i think the letter will do. i also recommend that we set up a list so that everybody who withdraws from a school gets their name put up, with the school they withdrew from, AND the date of their withdrawal (important because the ones that withdraw before May 15 are the ones that are really doing us a GREAT FAVOR!) We can make a list of all the schools in bold, and put the people that withdraw along with the date, next to the school. it'll look like the Acceptances thread just to give one idea. that way everyone can see who's contributing, and how much, etc.

We can also petition Specifically for schools that we REALLY need people to drop for us. but generally the goal should be for everybody to withdraw from ALL schools they are NOT considering that much, not even With Financial Aid (i assume many would drop MCPHU pretty soon, which I could benefit from. what do you guys think. Hero, since you'll procrastinate tomorrow, you can write up all the names of the schools and spell out the goals and details of the Thread for everybody so, it's worded just right Prior to it being "released for the masses to see".

Aphro, please post your PM on HERE. it's for all of us to see and benefit from isn't it? we are a TEAM, baby!!

I am a huge fan of this plan. We should have a campaign slogan to sway the voters, like "One acceptance for everyone, but only one, so all you greedy bast#$ds holding one better drop them now because we know where you live" Hmmm, maybe not the most effective, but I think that it gets the point across nicely.

As for creating a list of schools that we need people to drop, I don't know if that will help, as people will hopefully make up their minds and only hold one. The numbers with the schools will all work out in the end, although I really wish that the end is NOW!

I'll post the thread and I will edit it accordingly to the input I get from you guys!

I think the list is a great idea, I will add it to the first post and edit/add to it as time goes by. Remember the main focus of this thread is to convince applicants to drop multiple acceptances.

Caveman... every school? :( How about I add the school as they come up?

•••quote:•••We can also petition Specifically for schools that we REALLY need people to drop for us.••••We're on the same wavelength on this. I'm thinking about making a list for petitions as well! Petitions will keep the thread bumped for it's effect to be taken. We should keep this 'waitlist club' a bit less conspicuous. hehe people will see us scheming :p But applicants w/ multiple acceptances prolly won't be reading this thread.

I don't think we should ask people to drop the acceptances they worked so hard for. I only think they should list the schools they have dropped so we can feel better if we see the school we are waiting on on the list.

Hooray! We are not just an idle club, but a club of ACTION!!

We know that, by far, MOST of our fellow SDNers are our allies in this miserable process, so if we appeal to their gratuitous nature, while acknowledging what a huge FAVOR they would be doing for us, I think it will be well-received. Attitude and tone will be important, though. Let's show them our (God, not only have we been sucking up to every adcom, but it feels like we're about to do the same to our blessed-with-multiple-acceptances peers. Hey, NOTHING is beneath me at this point, because desperation has taken hold.)

Sign my name too -- and let me know if I can help!

you can start here with me inanna. start at the top and work your way to the middle.... :p

well, let's start this beeotch up. i don't agree Foxy..I think we Should ask people to drop schools. i mean..why not??? are we twisting their arm?--no. we're just letting them know that we are waiting on a school that they might not want. one man's floor is another man's roof. and it's ****ing pouring outside! somebody needs to help us now! Let's petition, let's move this stuff around. Hero's right about people being idle even with schools they don't really care about---i know because i'd be the same way. they just need a reminder that we're waiting, and they'll hopefully get moving.

hero

You write awesome I don't know why you think your not a good writer. Anyway good idea. I have done a little investigation and I have found out that everyone who has gotten accepted at Pritzker who has posted it in the acceptance thread also have been accepted at other schools. Other than coop everyone else hasn't decided if they are going to Pritzker. So somebody needs to tell them that I am dying to get into Pritzker.

PelicanMan "somebody needs to tell them that I am dying to get into Pritzker"
Done :D

inanna thanks for the idea!

A. Caveman, start petitioning! Along with the rest of you! :)

gmendese's read our post and he's going to drop 2 schools on Monday!!!
:)

Hero, your letter was very polite, yet very touching and convincing. I am all for being proactive. Team Waitlist, here we come!

Emmm... well.. •••quote:•••Originally posted by inanna:

Looks like this is actually effective. 2 drops in one day.

Awesome.

f*ck waitlists and the 8 f*cking schools that have done this to me  (...though I'm holding on to the 9th one for dear life )
