Hi everyone, would appreciate input on this as decision day approaches.
NYMC:
Pros:
- Close by, would be able to commute from home and save on living costs
- Higher chance of matching in NY, and as of now I am interested in staying in NYC area for residency... but this could obviously change
- Close to support system
Cons:
- Not P/F and uses traditional 2 year preclinical curriculum -- some current students had mentioned to me that this track makes studying for Step 1 more difficult...
- Unranked / closes doors on some residency opportunities?
---------------
Wake Forest:
Pros:
- Curriculum - shortened preclinical time and take Step 1 earlier
- Ranked/more broad residency opportunity? Especially if I decide later on NY isn't where I necessarily want to stay
Cons:
- Far; think I'd find it a lot more stressful being that far from home
- More costly (housing, flights home, etc.)
Gut feeling: I think I am leaning towards NYMC at this point. It's a tough choice and I did like both schools, but I feel that for me personally being close to family is important, not to mention the money saved.
However I wanted to get some input from the SDN community. Thanks!
