Anyone here work in a state where you have to run to the register and scan your bar code on any new or copy prescription? And 80% of the "new" rxs are refills. It must feel like you're a mouse in a cage.

Print barcode under staff maintenance. Maybe it's state specific, but barcodes are good for 30 dayswhere do you scan a bar code? i have to freakin' type my log in stuff. and like i'll be one letter off. repeat. sometimes it doesn't accept.
yeah change in manufacturer... CAP! ugh. it's pretty bad.
you can truly NEVER complete a full thought. and if you followed the SOP to a T, then you actually have to offer and complete the consult before you clear it. but who really does that? if i'm being efficient as possible i have to assume every single pick up has a cap, so i try my best to listen to every last name for pick up and clear it before the tech grabs the bag.
you can't even draw up a syringe for a vaccine before there's another CAP! it's truly awful. because what do you do? you're in this long stupid convo with a hospice nurse writing down 5 different rx's then getting hospice billing info..my god there's probably 5 caps in the phone call. ugh.
What are y’all talking about? Is this a first fill counseling thing?
it's kind of a bit to explain. california is mandatory counseling on all new rx's. so if you work at WAG they've implemented a block on the sale of any "new" rx. any rx that doesn't say the word "refill" on the label. so this includes obviously every c2, every renewal, every change in manufacturer as well, all vaccines excepet flu shots randomly. so the cashier will not be able to ring out the customer until a pharmacist clears the block. this is to avoid lawsuits from the board. so the standard operating procedure WAG implemented is that the consult must be offered and completed BEFORE you clear the block.
make sense now? lol
so it's super rare to not have a block to be honest. even someone getting their maintenance refills. how often do you think it was renewed (by the doctor after running out of refills) or a manufacturer was changed? BLOCK! (or in WAG terms, it's a CAP!)
So every new/copy in Cali is CAPd? Can't even clear @ POS via barcode? One day I tried clearing everything at product review and it takes way longer than swiping a barcode (which is bad enough).it's kind of a bit to explain. california is mandatory counseling on all new rx's. so if you work at WAG they've implemented a block on the sale of any "new" rx. any rx that doesn't say the word "refill" on the label. so this includes obviously every c2, every renewal, every change in manufacturer as well, all vaccines excepet flu shots randomly. so the cashier will not be able to ring out the customer until a pharmacist clears the block. this is to avoid lawsuits from the board. so the standard operating procedure WAG implemented is that the consult must be offered and completed BEFORE you clear the block.

if you don't offer consult and the board catches you, we were told it's a 3k fine. 1k for the rph, 1k for the pharmacy, and 1k for the pharmacy manager.
so the best place in this system for a pharmacist to work is actually the cash register. your techs can work uninterrupted for the most part. obviously this isn't perfect either because of doctor calls and having to focus on data entry. but you could do that in between customers too i guess. yes it's RIDICULOUS!
