GPA experienced a dip my 1st year at university. I did dual enrollment so my freshman year was really my junior academic year so settling in was rough and had 2 C's in Orgo I and Physics I but managed to get an A/B in Orgo II and Physics II. Following semesters were followed with increasing gpa but nothing too significant.
Undergrad Attended: Florida Gulf Coast University
Major: Pre-Professional Biology
Minority: Asian (not underrepresented)
Reapplicant: No
Non-Traditional: No? Just graduated in Dec. Currently taking a year off and applying this cycle.

Shadowing Experience:
100+ With General Dentist and Pediatric Dentist (50-general, 60+ pediatrics (mainly because with COVID I wasn't able to find a general dentist). I should hopefully earn close to 200 hours by applications.
Volunteering Experience: (200+) Hospital ER Volunteer, LIONS Club International, hours obtained from clubs such as the Cancer Research Program. American Chemical Society (middle school outreach program). Hours were also obtained in service learning courses where we coordinate with local organizations in SWFL such as Special Equestrians (upkeep farm area for children who ride equestrians as therapy) and Student Farmworker Alliance where we work with local organizers in Immokalee Fl to help aid their fight in gaining proper rights for farmworkers.
Research: I have about 1.5 years of research experience and was able to present at a university showcase for sponsors as well as a state conference (Florida Undergraduate Research Conference.
Employment: Research Assistant (Summer), Academic Tutor (1 semester)
Other Extracurriculars:
Secretary and President of the Cancer Research Program (tabled for member involvement, blood drives, and coordinated walk-a-thons and cancer-related educational courses for local high schools), Vice-President of Asian American Student Union (AASU), member of Pre-Dental Society, member of LIONS club (free hearing/vision exams), member of Cooking Club (often collaborated with them in AASU to host cultural events)
LOR type and strength: Physiology Professor: strong, Cell-Bio: strong, Dentist: Currently shadowing so the LOR might be average as I just started shadowing them and I'm still getting to know them. Plus, don't really have anyone else to ask right now :/

Also planning to retake my DAT as I'm not happy with it so I was gonna take it in early July, hopefully that's not too late. I want to apply the day apps open.
My plan was to apply early with my current DAT score and mention that I'll be retaking it. Does that sound like a good plan? Has anyone been in my shoes? This is my list for right now. I'm thinking my list will be to stay at 8-10. I prefer to stay in Fl but I'm open minded to the East coast. Looking for advice and any other encouraging words!

School List:
UF
LECOM
NOVA
UPitt
Case Western
Midwestern IL
UTenn
Ohio State
Boston U

you need to apply to way more schools...

I agree with the last post, you need to add a lot more schools. I also wouldn’t bother applying to unc, pitt, or osu since out of state your odds are slim for osu and unc and for pitt they require a 17 in every section on the DAT. I think you have a shot if you apply broadly enough. Good luck applying, be smart about your school list!

How much is a lot more schools? Any suggestions?

I would say aim for like 15 schools or so. You probably have the best chance at some of the more expensive private schools like usc, tufts, etc. Temple might also be worth applying to.

Yeah you’re gonna need to retake the DAT for sure, and echoing what BMH said, UNC/Pitt/OSU are almost certainly no go’s. Being that you’re OOS puts you at a disadvantage with those schools already, but even with a high DAT score your GPAs are on the lower side for OOS as well. Focus on scoring well on the DAT and hopefully you’ll be able to get into UF and get that in state tuition.
