Concerns:
My science GPA is def a big concern for me, I unfortunately got C's in both semesters of Ochem, as well as one semester of Physics. My course load for this coming semester is mostly science classes (animal science, micro, ochem lab) and I feel good about those, but those grades aren't going to be seen this round. Are there any schools on this list that are a better chance for me than others? Anything I should add? I also worry I don't have enough outside of the vet field experience, but I feel like it is better to have well-rounded experiences within the vet field at least? Please let me know your thoughts!

Your experiences are strong. I don’t know enough to say much about more grade-focused schools, but I think your application has a good shot with more holistic admissions like U of Mn.

@Bears!
I think both Tufts and Ohio will appreciate the breadth of experience and that you've done research, just speaking from my experience with both schools. And I think your major/minor combination will catch their attention, especially Tufts - when I last spoke with admissions, they were really focusing on like, diversity, ethics etc. lately. Plus they'll like your involvement with things that aren't related to vet med, too. Cornell was my IS and they gently urged me not to apply there, but it wasn't because of Cs, it was because of Ws, and that may not be the case with everybody.

If it helps, I def had Cs on my transcript from Bio II, Chem II and a couple others, and both let me in when I was retaking Orgo I for the third time. I'd had two Ws in it in the past. And then Tufts was fine with having Orgo II and Biochem listed for the spring semester.

Thanks for letting me know your experience! That definitely helped me feel a bit more confident about my apps, especially since Tufts is a top choice for me! I don't have any W's on my transcript but I didn't know that was such a big deal to vet schools. Can I ask you what some of your stats were?

sure, it was a couple years ago now, but I had like a 3.4 cumulative gpa and maybe like a 3.1 science gpa or something around that. ~3000 hours in wildlife med, only about 300 hrs in small animal gp and maybe like, 800-ish in shelter med? And ~20hrs with some ecology goats. for other stats I'm non-trad; bachelor's in journalism, nys lvt and licensed wildlife rehabber, plus my master's in ecology. worked in the field for several years before deciding on vet school, definitely did not want to be a vet all my life lol and definitely did not get good grades in undergrad sciences. i was very focused on being like, a nat geo journalist/naturalist for a long time. included a lot of hobbies/jobs etc that weren't necessarily related to vet med too. guitar, hockey, surfing, and being a barista for many years.

were you looking for anything else in particular?

No that was a pretty comprehensive list. Thank you so much!
