21 F, Colorado resident, traditional student. I'm applying to a bunch of schools but I'm really hoping to get into CSU, and I wanted to see what people thought of what I have so far!
Cumulative GPA: 3.75
science GPA: 3.66
last 45: 3.69
Any degrees achieved: I will be getting my BS in Biology with a minor in chemistry in May of 2023
GRE results: Didn't take GRE.
Veterinary Experience:
-224 hours interning at an emergency vet for a semester
-432 hours working as a veterinary assistant and receptionist at a local vet.
-Roughly 12 hours of shadowing a family friend that is a vet.
Animal Experience:
-80 hours volunteering at a cat rescue for a summer.
-645 hours fostering kittens for the cat rescue (I put in VMCAS that I worked 5 hours a week starting in August of 2019, but please let me know if that sounds too high and if I should lower those hours!)
-148 hours volunteering at a farm animal sanctuary. I worked with chickens, ducks, rabbits, pigeons, donkeys, miniature horses, and goats there.
-160 hours interning at a wildlife rehab. I worked with birds (excluding birds of prey), waterfowl, raccoons, and squirrels.
-115 hours volunteering at the same wildlife rehab after my internship ended.
Research Experience: None 🙁 I was so busy getting hours for my application that I wasn't able to fit it into my schedule.
Awards/scholarships:
-Honor Roll (cumulative GPA of 3.50-3.74) in 2020 and 2022
-Dean's List of Academic Distinction (cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher) in 2021.
-Academic scholarship for my undergrad education.
Extracurriculars:
-I did all star cheer from age 5 to 18, I had practice multiple times a week and it was a huge time commitment. My teams won several national titles as well.
-I did high school cheer throughout high school, that was also a huge time commitment.
-I'm currently in the Pre-Health Professionals club at my university.
Employment:-
-Only actual paid job I've had was the vet I currently work at as a vet assistant and receptionist. I wasn't able to work in high school because I was so busy with cheer.
LORs:
-Two recommendations from the vets I assist most often at my job.
-Two recommendations from professors I had in multiple bio classes.
-One recommendation from the owner of the farm animal sanctuary.
-One recommendation from the operations and programs manager at the wildlife rehab I volunteer at.
I'm mostly concerned that my GPA is not good enough and that my experiences aren't diverse enough! I have gotten mostly A's and some B's throughout college, but my GPA still doesn't seem high enough. Some other vet school hopefuls on here have such amazing resumes, and I feel like I fall short compared to them.
