Hello all,
I am planning to apply to vet school next year and wanted some opinions on what my chances are now and any suggestions to improve my appilcation. I graduated with my undergrad degree in 2022 and am a first gen student. It was a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from WSU. I plan on volunteering/ shadowing at vet clinics over the next year to build my vet hours as I've recently decided I want to apply for vet school. Here are my stats:
science GPA: 3.55
Overall GPA: 3.58
last 45 GPA: 3.7

Vet clinic hours:
58.5 as a kennel attendant but furloughed due to COVID
101 as a vet assistant over the summer
15 from my current job at a shelter where I have helped clean in the clinic sometimes and shadowed surgeries one day.

Animal Experience Hours:
Petsmart, Pet Care specialist: ~1000+ (worked there for a year and a half)
Dairy Farm, General Herdsperson ~350 hours
WSU Bear Center, Volunteer ~30 hours
Animal Shelter, Animal Care Attendant ~1000+ (my current job have worked here over a year) I am also certified in animal/ first aid CPR and to perform euthanasia through this job.
wildlife sanctuary ~10 hours
Volunteer at a shelter 8 hours
Also some hours from pet sitting

Non-Animal Experience:
Popeyes, Cashier: ~600 hours
Insomnia Cookies, Shift Lead: ~1000+
Walmart, Greeter 90 hours
During Freshman year, I was voted to be the recognition representative for my residence hall which included organizing community events for staff and RAs.
I drive for uber eats sometimes if that counts.
I enjoy making rugs on my free time.

In addition, through my current job at the shelter, they have us trained and we perform veterinary physical examinations for every animal upon intake. I am unsure if that should be counted as vet hours as well.

Thank you all for your input and help.

I think your chances will change a lot depending on what you do for the next year!
Your GPA is around average for accepted students.
If you look at the accepted students threads, you will see what gets an average GPA in-- lots of veterinary specific hours, often in both small and large animal practice.
Good luck getting hours!
