4th year DO in SE. Step 1- 256, Step 2-276, mediocre at best LORs, one non anesthesia poster presentation, no ECs. Do I have a shot at mid tier university programs in SE? I'm mainly interested in University of Miami, University of Florida, MUSC, MCG, or Wake forest. My main concern is that I only did one gas rotation at a community hospital. I feel as though university programs want applicants that have experience rotating in an academic setting and have a LOR from an anesthesiologist in the same.

Your step 1/2 scores are over the 90th percentile for people who matched anesthesia last year. You should get plenty of invites, especially from the places you listed. I would even apply to some higher tiers such as Vandy, Duke, UNC you never know. Apply somewhat broadly since your LoRs and apparent lack of experience may hurt you a little though.

Ok ill add some of those programs as well, thanks for the reassurance. I only recently discovered there was a program director survey and it shows the 2nd most important factor as LORs in the specialty. In hindsight I probably should have done an away rotation to get a good letter but I was advised against it.

You definitely have a very good shot at all the programs listed. I would add UNC and Vanderbilt to the list. May I suggest Mayo-Jax as a "back-up" program? Mayo-Jax is very DO friendly.
