I’m a premed bio major and I just graduated this June from a UC with a degree in bio sci. I’m planning on applying this cycle for DO track although I know it is halfway through the application cycle. I am a CA resident. I started off very weak in terms of GPA but showed a strong upward trend towards the end. I’m wondering if I have a chance at getting into a DO school with my current stats mainly for this cycle, and if not this cycle for the next cycle. Also if a 505 would be good enough to get into DO with these stats. Thanks in advance!

My cGPA: 3.37 and my sGPA: 3.33 (BCP no math)

Grade breakdown:
Freshman cGPA: 2.897
Sophomore cGPA: 2.816
Junior cGPA: 3.103
Senior GPA: 3.356 (4.0 GPA all year)

1st MCAT: 495 (124/123/125/123)
2nd MCAT: Planning for sept 19. Scored 505 on both aamc FL1 (126/122/128/129) and aamc FL2 (127/125/127/126)—hoping to score 508 on real thing but since less than two weeks out I doubt I will get there.

Extracurriculars:

200+ hours of clinical volunteering
100+ hours scribing at a free clinic in underserved community
100+ hours tutoring a refugee
1000+ hours of research (2 years)
2 years of Student Govt (senate)
VP for an activist organization (2 years)
50+ hours shadowing a hematologist/oncologist
Have plans to shadow a DO after taking my MCAT

Gap year plans:
Retake one of my ochem classes (got a c-)
Retake my calc class (got a D+)
Take additional classes
Scribe

Thanks again! 🙂

You should wait until you know your 2nd MCAT score before applying. Post your score here when available in October.

Thanks for your reply! Do you think a 505 target is good for DO or do I need a higher score considering my previous stats?

505 is a good target but even if you score only 500 you could receive interviews at some of the newer schools.
