Hi everyone!
I am currently working as a dermatology MA part time while I study for the MCAT. I just graduated college this past May. I am an ORM and California applicant. After seeing a lot of other people's stats, I am not sure if I am a good enough applicant which makes me nervous, so I am wondering what you guys think.

Here are my stats:
overall GPA= 3.85
sGPA= 3.64
I have not taken my MCAT yet and am really struggling. I am projected to be around a 508.
Healthcare Experience:
Opthamology Technician- 240 Hours
Dermatology MA/Medical Scribe- 1000 hours (by the time of application)
Orthopedic Medical Scribe- 400 hours
Hospital Patient Care Volunteer Internship- 300 hours

Research:
Student Research- 200 hours
Undergraduate Research Assistant- 450 hours
SURF Program- 45 hours
1 research conference
2 poster presentations

Volunteering:
Dog Rescue- 300 hours
Crisis Counselor- 200 hours
Food Bank- 100 hours
Peer Notetaker- 100 hours

The MCAT will be important for your chances. Also, get 50 to 100 more hours of food bank volunteering before applying to avoid getting your application screened out at most schools. The other activities of dog rescue, crisis counselor, and notetaker will not help you as much as food bank will. I also see no evidence of campus involvement.

I don't know what you believe your purpose is as a physician. Also, UC medical schools prefer applicants from or commit to the communities near their campus.

Hi!
Thank you so much for your response. I will work on getting more community service hours on my app. I really appreciate your feedback!

I'm sorry I forgot to add campus involvement on my post! For campus involvement, I held a leadership position in a club for 2 years, was in my college of science's leadership group (almost negligible hours though because it was such a low commitment group = 10 hours), and was part of the university activities board group (help run/plan/coordinate events for student life and have about 200 hours of that for 3 years of involvement + received an award for it).

My passion for becoming a physician is rooted in a deep desire to heal and enhance the quality of life for others. During my shadowing experience in PM&R, I saw how impactful that compassionate care and pain management can have on patients. I was particularly moved by the stories of grandparents who were able to play with their grandchildren and ditch their canes/walkers. Although I have had work experience in Dermatology and Ophthalmology, I am most drawn to the holistic and patient-centered approach of PM&R, Internal Medicine, and its subspecialties. These areas align closely with my aspirations of providing comprehensive care that addresses both the physical and emotional aspects of health. I am also open to being an Osteopathic doctor. I struggled with a traumatic brain injury when I was younger and osteopathic manipulation was something that helped me tremendously. I value the emphasis on the mind-body connection and hands-on approaches to patient care.

Post your actual score here when available and I will suggest schools.
