Hello! I had two questions. This is my first application cycle, so any help is very appreciated!

First, how do top Canadian universities such as U of T, McGill, UBC compare to US T30/20/10, etc?

Second, please help me finalize my school list! Right now, here is what I am applying to.

Schools:

Einstein
Boston University
Cooper at Rowan University
Zucker
Drexel
Emory
Geisel
Geisinger
George Washington
Georgetown
Icahn
New York Medical College
OSU
Renaissance
Larner UVM
Rutgers
Sidney Kimmel
Brown
Tufts
University of Cincinnati
UMD
UMass
Pittsburgh
University of Rochester
University of Wisconsin
Wake Forest

Stats:

sGPA: 3.82, cGPA: 3.84, strong upward trend (HS: 3.92, FM: 3.65, SM: 3.84, JR: 3.93). Switched universities from the US to Canada after Highschool, hence the grade change

MCAT: 515 (129/128/128/130)

URM (Afro-Caribbean) Male

4 strong LORs, 1 okay.

Casper: 4th, PREview: 9

Fluent in English, French

Research: 1000h (800 expected), no pubs as of today (should be one within next 2 months, but didn't declare it on my app)

Clinical: (1100h (500 expected) volunteer EMS, 500h paid pharmacy tech)

Non-clinical volunteering: 1200h (500 expected) cofounded and lead a fairly big charity, 150h homeless shelter volunteering

Shadowing: 150h

Other clubs: 500h (300 expected) total, culture club, pre-health club, student council

Hobbies: soccer 700h (200 expected), singing (note with a dedicated vocal coach, not just on my own. I have a verifier for this) (1000h)

Thank you to everyone who helps on this forum, even just reading stuff here is very, very helpful. Wishing you all the best!!

Just looking for any schools you would recommend adding or removing!
Remove Rutgers and Cooper Rowan since they admit few non residents with no connection to the state.
You could add any of these schools:
Harvard
NYU (free tuition)
Columbia
Cornell
U Chicago
Northwestern
Case Western
Miami
Duke

Oh yea I see! Okay I will add some of these schools. Any preliminary ideas on chances for IIs with this school list? I have decent writing as I have a solid group of people to proofread and give suggestions. Once again tysm for your help!

Oh and yes, I was vaguely aware of this strong in state bias, I will remove those two schools.

You should receive several interviews with your stats and ECs.

I had a random question. Is it worth applying to Yale SOM?

Only wondering but my stats are definitely on the lower side for some of the deep reach schools. What makes me competitive here?
The URM African American applicant pool is small and there are only ~100 per year that apply with a MCAT of 513+ AND a GPA of 3.6+. That is less than one per MD school in the country. So 1 will attend Harvard, 1 at Yale, 1 at Stanford, 1 at Johns Hopkins, etc. etc. etc. .

Understood, makes sense

There are multiple URM AAs at the top schools. You're a great applicant.

I'd add WashU, Penn, and some HBCUs.

Try contacting SNMA members at one of your target schools.

Hello. What should I contact them about? Like how would I format this sort of email?

Find out if there is someone similar in background to you at their school who you can talk to about their experience as students. Ask AIbots to help you if you're stuck without a template.

i have one thing I also forgot to add. I am a trad applicant, but just did a lot of EC work throughout my summers and school years (around 40h/week during the school year, closer to 60 during the summer). Does trad vs non trad matter at all? All my verifiers have confirmed my documented hours and I reported the accurate amount, but even I am aware of how much I no-lifed the past few years 😭 I heard if they feel the need to reach out to verifiers it is a big red flag
I am financially privileged, and therefore never had to work to stay in school/make a living, so I spent most of that time volunteering or working in other things
Kind of neurotic, I know
