Hi everyone! I'm a graduating senior applying this upcoming cycle. I'd like to get some feedback on my application and suggestions for schools that I should apply to, as well as ideas on what to do for my gap year if you have any.
  • cGPA and sGPA as calculated by AMCAS or AACOMAS: 3.97 cGPA, 3.95 sGPA
  • MCAT score(s) and breakdown: 524 (130/130/132/132)
  • State of residence or country of citizenship (if non-US): OK
  • Ethnicity and/or race: ORM (South Asian)
  • Undergraduate institution or category: T25 in CA
  • Clinical experience (volunteer and non-volunteer):
  1. 400 hours in orthopedic clinic as COVID-19 tester, helping patients fill out COVID-19 documentation, and transporting elderly patients into and out of the building.
  2. 150 hours in local hospital rounding on underserved patients and making sure they are able to make their follow up appointments. Was part of a pilot program with the goal of decreasing hospital readmission post discharge.
  3. 100 hours in children's hospital assisting with patient rehab.
  • Research experience and productivity:
  1. 1800 hours in computational biology lab studying stems cells (leading an independent project developing a novel model, 3 presentations but no pubs, will continue during my gap year)
  2. 200 hours in clinical research (working on a pub currently with plans to submit before primaries, will continue during my gap year)
  • Shadowing experience and specialties represented:
  1. 40 hours primary care
  2. 10 hours ER
  3. 10 hours cardiology
  • Non-clinical volunteering:
  1. 200 hours in soup kitchen/food pantry during the pandemic
  2. 100 hours at welcome desk in children's hospital
  3. 100 hours tutoring high school students
  4. 50 hours miscellaneous with premed club
  • Other extracurricular activities (including athletics, military service, gap year activities, leadership, teaching, etc):
  1. 1500 hours developing a web tool to help undergraduates at my university find research opportunities that align with their interests
    • Coordinated with academic office on campus on how best to address student needs
    • I don't have any metrics on how many benefitted from the tool, but I received feedback from at least 20 undergrads
    • Tool will most likely be adopted by the university after I graduate
  2. 300 hours interning at a health tech startup analyzing patient cardiology data
  3. 500 hours self-taught programming/web development hobby (outside of my lab and web tool work)
  4. 200 hours club table tennis team
  • Relevant honors or awards:
  • Significant merit scholarship for my university
  • Summa cum laude
  • Received 5 research grants for my independent research project
  • Anything else not listed you think might be important:
  • I will be continuing with the labs I'm a part of during my gap year, but my hours will be pretty flexible, so I was thinking of picking up a clinical job at least part time.
  • I will most likely have a couple of pubs after primaries have been submitted, with at least one first author.
  • I have a strong connection with all of my letter writers, so I'm hoping they will be solid.
  • A large portion of my family lives in Texas, so I wanted to apply there, but I'm unsure if this counts as "strong ties."
  • I also have dedicated a decent chunk of time as a competitive gamer, but I'm unsure as to whether or not this is looked upon favorably. I've heard mixed opinions.
I would love to hear any opinions and/or advice. Thank you!

If you're okay with the extra year, Cleveland Clinic fits the bill well for you.

Baylor and UTSW look for high stat applicants with research. You fit this and should include them. It seems you have your 15 activity slots accounted for in AMCAS from what you shared. I would not include competitive gaming in there.

I suggest:
OU
Baylor
UTSW
WUSTL
Vanderbilt
Penn
Columbia
Harvard
Yale
Stanford
Einstein
Rochester
Hofstra
Sinai
Cornell
NYU
UVA
Iowa
Dartmouth
Emory
Keck
Wisconsin
Pitt
Northwestern
Ohio State
Cincinnati
Case
Jefferson
