Hi, I'm a current junior who would like to apply this cycle and I would love some help creating a school list. I have MSAR but I am struggling to identify all the factors (OOS friendliness, mission statement, etc) that would make a school a good target for me. I'd like to stay in the northeast but I'm honestly open to traveling anywhere.

Gpa: cGPA: 3.66/sGPA: 3.59
MCAT: 515 (130/128/129/128)
State: NYS resident
College: Non-HYP Ivy (don't know if this matters)
Race/gender: black female

Activities:
Research: 350 hours of biochemistry research, 1 presentation but no pubs
Clinical experience:
50 hours as a hospice care volunteer
400 hours working as a caregiver to patients with special needs
80 hours shadowing (OBGYN, emergency medicine, family medicine). All the doctors were MD.
Non Clinical Volunteering:
150 hours with Crisis Textline
110 hours as a peer counselor at my school
200 hours designing and teaching my own virtual orgo course, which was designed to prepare URM students at my school for organic chemistry. The course was very successful and we are looking at running it again this summer.
Teaching/Leadership Experience:
325 hours chemistry tutor
400 hours general chemistry teaching assistant

LOR: Committee letter and letters from the chem professor I teach for, the PI of my lab, and the director of the hospice care place where I volunteer. I'm hoping they'll all be pretty good.

Tentative school list-I'd like to apply to 20-25 schools:

Reaches???:
University of Rochester
Cornell
Case Western

Targets???
SUNY Upstate
SUNY Downstate
SUNY Buffalo
Einstein
Albany
Stoneybrook
Drexel
Penn State
Pitt
Temple
Rosalind Franklin
Loma Linda
Loyola
Ohio State
Creighton
Howard
Morehouse
Meharry
Tulane
Wake Forest
Thomas Jefferson

Question: I haven't been able to shadow a DO due to COVID. Should I try adding some DO schools such as LECOM which do not require a DO letter of recommendation (per my friend who got accepted)?

You have a good application. Apply to all MD schools in NY, including the top tiers. That'll be a good base for you; then add a few mid tiers and top tiers until you have 20 or so schools. Faha has given you a good list.

Once you have a list, connect with any SNMA officers at the schools that you have strongest interest. Get connected with SNMA because they have a lot of resources for underrepresented premeds.
