This cycle I applied to 4 MD schools and just received my first rejection from my state school. I currently still have 1 interview left and 1 interview hold, so there is still hope. I'm trying to decide if I should reapply next cycle and apply to 20+ MD schools and DO schools, or apply to DO schools now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Stats:
URM (AA male)
Slightly non trad, just finished a post bac 2 years after my bachelors.
cGPA:3.91 sGPA: 3.92
MCAT: 509 127/125/127/130
Clincial Experience: 50 hours hospice, 150 Emergency room
Shadowing: 50 hours
Nonclinical Volunteering: 100 hours in a thrift store.
Tutored for 1 year.

Just four schools? That's way too low a number.

Anyway, it's not too late for DO schools. Hence, you get to be a doctor a year earlier than if you go through another cycle. I don't know enough about residencies to advise if being URM trumps being a DO. if not, then just get used to the fact that some uber residencies will be out of reach.

Thanks for the reply. I have several secondaries that I can still submit, is it worth doing this late into the cycle. Also will being a reapplicant significantly hurt my chances if I apply to different schools next cycle and do you think I should try to retake the mcat in January for next cycle, I think I can get it to 512-513 but im not sure if its worth it, thanks.

Mississippi is my state of residency. I have secondaries for Miami, both LSU schools, Illinois, Iowa, Merrhay, Rosiland Franklin, GW, and Georgetown.

It would be worth submitting your secondaries to Miami, Illinois, Iowa, Meharry, Rosalind Franklin, GW and Georgetown in the next week.

I think your mistake was not applying to more schools. Submit those secondaries and see what happens. You probably could have gotten in an MD with 20+ schools.

Are you ok with DO schools if it means starting in 2019 vs waiting for MD in 2020?

I'm gonna try to submit them all in the next 2 days. I think I'm gonna wait and try again in 2020 if I dont make it this cycle and apply to 20+ MD schools and 10+ DO schools next cycle.
