No, I messed up the date in my profile. I was there on wednesday. I am still in disbelief! 🙂 Treg

so does everyone who gets accepted get a call the night of the adcom meeting?

There was some deal about acceptances by geographical region right?

Also, I don't think everyone gets call (correct me if I am wrong).

You're right - Not everybody gets a call. A lot of people found out just by snail mail. I wonder if they did all the regions today.......

the full adcom always reviews apps from every region

I found out by overnight mail. I wonder why the difference?

But regardless of the method . . . . congrats to all!!!!!!!!

In the email from my interviewer today, he mentioned that I will have the option to apply for the merit scholarships. For anyone who has already done this (boardchic?), what do I need to get together? i.e. how many reference letters, transcripts, an essay? Thanks! 🙂 Treg

The merit scholarship application invloves a 1000 word personal statement on your interests in Wash U, and one letter of evaluation from a professor type person.

Thanks pinkertinkle 🙂

Is anyone else seriously thinking that they will be at Wash U this August? I am still going to the Cornell revisit in March, and perhaps NYU's and UPenn's (if I am accepted there). It will pretty much come down to financial aid.

I'm not really sure... It depends on both financial aid and where else I get accepted. Treg, you're so lucky to have so many great options at this point. If UPenn finds it in their heart to accept me in March, I think they're my top choice at this point. Do all schools have a revisit weekend? (Haha, my work is going to kill me when they learn that interviews being over does not mean that I'm done taking days off...)

I think that all of the top tier schools have revisit weekends for sure. I remember reading last year on SDN that Columbia, Cornell, Penn, WashU, Stanford, Northwestern, Pitt, and NYU had revisits. I only know the dates of the ones I have heard about so far (and these are targeted to minority acceptees, which means they may or may not coincide with the larger revisit weekend): Cornell 3/11-13, Penn (during Penn relays weekend in April), and NYU (sometime in April).

Not to hijack the Wash U thread though! Perhaps we can meet in person at the scholarship interviews if any of us are lucky enough to be selected 🙂 :luck:

I am in western Canada, and I am still waiting for my acceptance packet. I am not sure how they send things internationally...

🙂 Treg

(Trying to write my Olin essay right now, and not getting anywhere. Haven't we already written a bazillion essays to get into med school? Ugh.)

hey, i got the express mail envelope today. they tried to deliver it yesterday, but everywhere in R.I. was closed 'cos of the blizzard!

So what are you going to do? Wash U or Baylor, riverie? 🙂 Awesome decision to have, regardless!

heehee. to be honest, ninebillion, i was definitely more blown away by my day at baylor than my day at wash u. my heart is definitely pulling me towards the former. but ya don't come across amazing offers like these everyday, so i am going to hold on to it a little bit and think about it some more... 😉

riverie, let me know if I can be of any help if giving you advice - i also was considering these two schools, so my thought process might be of some help (though I'll be biased obviously by the one I picked)

My cousin (the one who is a senior at Brown) was here for a few days and came to class, and was blown away too 😛

Hey guys! I just got an interview invite today (I'm from Nevada). I was just curious if yall knew if their class is full and they are interviewing for the wait list, or if I actually have a chance. I was so surprised that they are still interviewing, it totally made my week! 🙂

They meet approximately once each month--usually on the third Thursday of the month. Last month, however, was an exception to this rule as the committee met twice (according to fellow SDNers).

There was a rumor they might meet twice in January to make sure people had time to apply for scholarships after getting their acceptances. Any more word on whether this is true?

Oops. When I said that they met "last month" I really meant January.

so they have ALREADY met twice this month?

I interviewed there earlier this week. IIRC, one of the admissions persons told us they have already sent out 200 of the 250 acceptances. (But take that with a grain of salt. It would not be the first time an admission person give different information to different students.)

So are people who interview in Feb. too late to apply for scholarships?

The Olin Fellowship (for women only) application is due tomorrow, so I thought those that interview in February are too late to apply for that. And the merit scholarship application is due February 21, so I'm not sure about that one. They don't make decisions until May, so they might allow you to turn it in later but I doubt it.

take this with a grain of salt as well, but last year, i got in in late december and my scholarship application was due maybe 4 weeks later. someone else i knew got in in late january and hers was due 4 weeks after that. so the due date that one person has may be different from the due date that another person has. that said, i don't know when the absolute latest due date is.

and you're out of luck for the olin scholarship for women - that's a firm deadline of feb 1

I got in the during the first January cycle, and my scholarship package is due Feb 7. So the dates for that do seem to flex at about 4 weeks after you are accepted.

wash u is so cute. i got a card from my interviewer today congratulating me on my acceptance and a pen from the school as a "memento of my acceptance." heehee, too cute! 😛

Uh, does anyone get into WashU without a 38+ on the MCAT? I *only* have a 36 and it seems like that won't be good enough for this school. The whole number ***** thing is seemingly coming out all too true, or am I being too presumptuous here?

I think there may be some truth in what you say regarding the number-whoring. Wash U does seem to place greater emphasis on high MCATs and/or grades. In my particular instance, I've received more attention from Wash U than Harvard/UPenn/Stanford/UCSF, schools which arguably place as much emphasis on grades/MCAT as they do ECs. Granted I'm not from Cali, which would put me at a great disadvantage in the first place at UCSF, but my ECs are definitely not as spectacular as some people who've interviewed at say Harvard and UPenn. So perhaps my MCAT score got me more attention from Wash U than Harvard and Upenn. But who knows, my theory may be bogus too.

That said, Dr. Donkey, I think your MCAT is still pretty close enough. Someone on mdapplicants.com seems to have gotten into Wash U this year with a 37.

On a side note, continuing with my gift story from Wash U, the letter that came with the pen said "P.S. The box is rather difficult to open. Push in and then up to open it. If all else fails, break the box to get to the pen." gotta love their attention to detail. 🙂

Well, i know people who got in with a 36 (not this year, but in the last several years). I actually have a lower score than you, and I'm not counting on an acceptance - I did searches on previous threads of WashU that talked about numbers, and wasn't really encouraged. 🙁

Good luck! I think your score is awesome, and you have a very good chance in getting in to WashU! :luck:

Isn't the AVERAGE there about a 36? So there must be a bunch of people with 36 and below out there getting acceptances. MD applicants skews to the high side.

That must be me. I never would have imagined that I would be the one with the "low" MCAT for a school 😉

I am curious as to how many of us acceptees are invited to apply for the merit scholarships. Has anyone else received the packet? It was mailed the day after my acceptance letter.

Re: the scholarship deadlines question - I got in during December. My scholarship deadline was 4 weeks later, but the package arrived over the holidays so I wasn't home to get it, and couldn't contact the person who could write my evaluation until after that. When I explained my situation they extended my deadline another week. (Crossing my fingers that that didn't hurt my chances - I am so in love with this school.) Anyway, my point is that I think the scholarship deadlines are rolling so if you haven't gotten in yet you haven't missed out.

i interviewed there in november and still havent head a thing...........i thought the interview went well and i thought i expressed myself well.......alas, i have a 36 also, but my gpa is only 3.72 so i dont know if it cuts it for WashU. freak i hate waiting! 😕

Thanks MayGirl, here's to both of us getting in in some kindof freak accident where they pay attention to people's personality...haha, seriously, I'm just kidding. Not the right thing to post on a thread full of people who just got into the school 😀 . Better put another smiley down to ward off the evil eye 🙂 .
