My interviewer at WashU and I have been emailing back and forth a bit, and he told me several times that about half of the students who end up attending in the fall will come off of the wait list... so basically, there is still hope if you get waitlisted!

Does anybody know if Wash U entertains requests for deferrals? And if so, what the deadline is to make the request? I haven't made any decisions yet, but there is some chance that I'm going to need/want to stay out of school for another year.

Since no one knew, I called. In case anyone else was curious: They do accept deferral requests; the deadline is June 1 although they encourage you to make the request as soon as you know you're going to want to defer (obviously). The person who answered the phone said she's never heard of a request being denied.

so had washu sent out any waitlists yet? i know there was the one rejection pos-interview (sorry about that iggyboop, hopefully ucla will send you some good news this week!), but anything else except acceptances?

WashU doesn't notify wait list people until later... my interviewer told me that in April is when we would hear about wait lists (but i'm hoping it's a little sooner)... so if you havent heard anything yet, there is still a chance you are going to be wait listed, and like I said before, a lot of their students come in from the wait list.

yeah, i emailed my interviewer a while back and she said april too......i'll be waitlisted..... 😳 😛 poop!

So is the deal that if you don't hear by March 17, it means you will be rejected or waitlisted sometime in april?

Received rejection letter today dated 3/7.
I must have really sucked it up in my interview.

sorry to hear about that tic112. but, congrats on your new york acceptance & good luck with the rest of the apps!

so it seems like theyre sending out rejections and acceptances, but not waitlists. I am so sick of the alternate/waitlist stuff.

Does anyone know when FINAL decisions are being mailed out? When is the last excomm meeting, etc? It's so frustrating waiting...

This crap is annoying. Do they realy need a pool of 50000000 interviewees to consider every meeting? Honeslty they could reject some ppl they know they arent going to admit..
I'd rather just know one way or the other lol

the last committee meeting is this thursday..........i think they did reject ppl post interview........can anyone confirm this??? but the final date is april 15th. you either get accepted, waitlisted or rejected. this is really frustrating, ive been waiting since november. i thought my iinterview went well, but what can one do. the sad thing is i still hold out hope ......... 🙁

this thursday? their last committee meeting is on St. Patrick's Day? :luck: hopefully they'll all be drunk enough to accidently accept me!

at this point, i'm expecting a waitlist spot (so now if they reject me, i'll look like an ass for saying that, but whatever). i'm not even sure i'd accept a waitlist spot though, as i just withdrew from northwestern and pitt post-waitlist. i hate waitlists, and this process is complicated enough. they should send everybody their decisions a month earlier. or maybe interview less people. have i complained enough? 😀

October here. I also thought my interview went really well. Why do they bother interviewing so many people if theyre not going to let you in even if the interview is good? Id rather have a presecondary rejection lol.
PS: thanks vandy

In case anyone is curious: I called the admissions office today and asked about the merit scholarships. The committee will be meeting on Monday, April 4 to select finalists, who will be notified by phone beginning right after the meeting. Whoever they can't reach by phone within a day or two will get a physical letter. (I assume the phone people will get a letter too, and they were just assuring me that if I'm unreachable I won't lose my chance.)

I've called that office more than I've called anyone else except my mom and my boyfriend this year, I think. Hopefully they don't check caller ID and keep records 😛

I'm really confused....their last meeting is March 17th, but we won't hear until a MONTH later? They don't send stuff out for a couple weeks after they decide or we'll be hearing stuff from March 18th until April 15th? Sorry for the obssessiveness....I just want to know where I might be next year. Not expecting great news, but still got some hope... 😀

Hey all WashU-acceptees and hopefuls:

I'm recently accepted (early-March with a November interview, so don't lose hope if you interviewed early) and starting to look for a roommate. I'm very excited about the opp. to study at such a hardcore school, but i wasn't too thrilled with olin hall when i stayed there.

I come from Chicago, so I'd really like to maintain some semblance of an urban lifestyle while in St. Louis.

so I found this really cool place that rents loft apartments in a nice neighborhood called layfayette sq. Its 5 min drive from campus, and i'll have a car. also, the rent is definitely reasonable, and the apartments look amazing

is anybody interested in possibly rooming with me? if so, give me an email... I plan to check the place out sunday of revisit weekend #1.

.

So who's definitely going to Wash U?

Bumping....does this mean we won't hear anything until after April 15th? We gotta wait another month?? Has anyone heard anything? Any new acceptances/rejections/waitlists?

Hey guys,

The Wash U merit scholarship interviews will all be on Saturday, May 7. I would imagine that the invitiations will come out sometime in April, but I forgot to ask that question while I was there.

:luck: Treg

Hey guys, I live in St. Louis and got my waitlist letter today so it looks like they've sent them out! Also the letter says they expect to be admitting 50+ people off the waitlist. Goodluck!

I think it went well, I mean as well as you can perceive any of these interviews! The other candidates were great, and the program is truly amazing. It is not just a scholarship, it is membership in a fellowship of smart, interesting women from very diverse backgrounds that meet regularly and have conferences, etc. I hope I am lucky enough to be selected, but at least they will tell us soon (by Monday/Tuesday at the latest). I will be sure to post when I find out 🙂

Sounds like a fantastic opportunity. Good luck, I hope you get it!

Those who interviewed the week of Feb 21-25 heard back yet?

Yeah I just got my waitlist letter in the mail. Better than a rejection. Does anyone have any advice on how to get in? Does Washu like a lot of contact? Should I send them a letter? What should it say?

yeah, send a letter if it's your top choice. be specific, let them know why you like wash u and why it's a great match for you. show you are committed. i think the letter of intent definitely helps, but only if you mean it. i interviewed with the dean of admissions, and she recommended i let my top choice know it. of course, i did that, then penn waitlisted me. but, i am extremely happy to in at wash u.

I think it always helps to have someone write/call on behalf of you, if possible. Writing a solid letter saying you would go if accepted can't hurt either.

WashU over Columbia?

Thanks for the advice. I'm a southern boy, I like the more laid back environment of Washu rather than the part of NYC that Columbia's in.

Got the waitlist letter today, FINALLY. This is a good thing! Oh, could someone else with one of these bad boys compare notes with me? Mine says I am "fully qualified for admission" and they "believe would thrive here" and "hope that will decide to keep [my] options open here." Do they tell that to everyone or do they like me? Also, the letter says they expect to take at least 50 (!) people off the waitlist. Dare I hope?

Edit: Just called the office. The waitlist is unranked and they won't say how big it is. They will start taking people from the waitlist whenever spots open up (which is usually May 15 but could be sooner), so please, you lucky accepted people, withdraw if you're sure you're going somewhere else.

i got my waitlist letter today too, and it said all the same things. ill be holding my beath all summer waiting for a call!

man, this sucks. I haven't even gotten a waitlist letter. I hope that doesn't mean I'm rejected. Although it may be nice to get some closure.

good luck everyone!

got my waitlist letter too...does anyone know how many people get waitlisted? 50 or so get off...but I'm just trying to figure out what my chances of hearing from them are. Good luck everyone! I hope you guys hear something soon...it definitely helps to know.

Yay Treg! Though I can't say I'm surprised. If anyone deserved it, you did!

sorry, also wondering if the committee with be meeting anymore to decide who gets off the waitlist? Is it ranked? Will a letter of intent help? thanks for any advice!! I'm so anxious and nervous....

KF, they told me it was unranked but wouldn't say how big it is.

I haven't gotten one either yet (aka probably rejection for me). Unfortunately, the fact that I never updated my application, sent love letters to WashU, or did anything after my interview probably didn't help my fate, but oh well.

Got my waitlist letter today...says 50+ off the waitlist are generally taken per year, but anyone have any idea how big the Wash U waitlist is and whether it is ranked?
