On mine, THRIVE is capitalized, bolded, underlined and italicized. Do you think that means anything?

It means the guy was being sarcastic.

i still have not heard anything from WashU...i wonder if that means something

yes - i hope that it means u live far from st louis (like me)....that, or they send the "other" letter later than the "thrive" one...(i hope not).

arg... are we the only 2 people who haven't gotten letters yet? DOes this mean we're on a different tier? Or rejected all together? It doesn't make sense to put 90% of ppl on the thrive tier, and so few people on the lower tier right? I wonder what is going on....

I interviewed late Jan. and haven't received anything yet. This really sucks.... Good luck to all of you.

i'm in the same boat - although in general, it takes about a week for me to get something from MO...I was expecting the letter today but nope, it did not arrive. It should arrive tomorrow for sure though...I'll let y'all know if I'm thrived or not...and you are on the west coast, so it should take a while for you to get urs too...we shall see. If I get thrived, I'm going out to for drinks to celebrate.

thrive just arrived today in boston. i'm sure the letters are still making their way to other places, too.

yea see, if you just got urs today in boston, then i should get mine tomorrow b/c i'm in toronto....probably takes even longer to get to if you're in CA.

i got the thrive letter in boston two days ago...so who knows? apparently their mailing/sorting system is subpar

california is already "thriving".

i'm a firm believer in the "one letter theory", so on behalf of
washu, i preemptively bestow the "thrive" blessing on all
of the rest of us, especially xylem, falco, and fuji.

btw my alternative theory is that there is a new category of
"ueber-thrivers"..."thrive" inflation???

best of luck to all of us. :luck: :luck: :luck:

Thriving here too. Bleh. Any theories on how large this waitlist is?

If they interview about 1200 people and accept about 300, then there's about 900 on the waitlist. That's huge... especially for an unranked waitlist. But that's not counting the post interview rejections. Anyone know if there are any?

Quite a few people have posted their post-interview rejections, many of whom had quite fantastic profiles. I therefore conclude that not everybody thrives in St. Louis.

Thriver as well...but who isn't? LOL, certainly takes all the air out of the word. 😳 I doubt I'll ever use the word "thrive" again....oh and thanks for the personalized digital signature Dr. Dodson...but then again, who could really blame you for not wanting to actually sign 900 letters for "thriving" candidates? 😛

yep this is not cool...i interviewed in early October...have not heard anything...no rejection (which should be a decently good sign)...no acceptance...not waitlist...no communication at all...dont know what to think of this

Hey Falco, maybe Dean Dodson is holding on to some thriving applications to give out a few more acceptances.....Wouldn't that be nice?!! I'm hoping I at least get the thrive letter...good luck to you.

Hey Falco, hang in there buddy...I interviewed in early November and have not heard anything. I hope we will be thriving soon

Tomorrow is the big day - I am expecting a letter of some sort from washU, b/c it doesn't take more than 6 business days for a regular letter sent by cheap airmail to get to me from MO. IF it is a rejection - I will be really discouraged...but if it is a thrive letter, I will be celebrating over the weekend, as it may be the only chance i get at celebrating over a top 10 school - gotta do it b4 i find out i'm not comin off the waitlist....lol. I'll let ya'll know in about 11 hours...

Maybe you should bet with me that you don't get in. I found that the best way to luck out is to jinx oneself.

Anyhow, I'm hoping to read about some wild celebration in Toronto:laugh:

So... does anyone know if there's a way to find out where you stand in the unranked waitlist? Students I talked to when I was there said that Dean Dodson was responsive to letters from the waitlisted. Does anyone know if he'd tell you if you had no chance? There has to be some way they're chosing the golden 50. Is it just by number of contacts to the office? Or the first 50 people to write letters of intent?

got the thrive letter 2 days ago. meh.

I haven't checked my mailbox yet, but I just realized something - there is a chance that I may not find anything because, is it reasonable to expect the staff to prepare and mail out all 900 letters in one day? I suspect that the ones who have received their letters interviewed before january...i interviewed late jan so they may have sent out my letter sometimes this week (rather than friday)...or maybe it has not been prepared yet.

anyone care to make or break this suspicion? falco, when did you interview?

I interviewed in mid-december, and I have yet to receive a letter.

I interviewed late Dec and got my letter this week. In true Wash U style, I do believe it's random. Geez louise.

thriver! Mid Jan interview.

Look at that accepted list... I bet you are glad that you throve, cuz it just made your May decision a tinsy winsy easier😉

Anybody else still waiting with me? 🙂

ALRITE!!! Got the letter just now - it's good news and bad news at the same time....it's a thrive letter - so there is still yet to be a non-thrive letter to be seen.

Anyway, Kardiackiel - is there anyway you can do some investigating for us to see if there are two tiers this year? Anyway, celebrations this weekend!!!! Woohoo!!!

btw just for ppl's reference - the letter is dated March 15.

I don't think there's much investigating to do. I think it's quite obvious that it really is just one big pool this year. Talk about a crapshoot.

how exactly does an unranked waitlist work? do they randomly pick a person off of the waitlist to offer an acceptance to? letter of intent? etc?

Hey, there's not enough room for the both of us in "last to hear from WashU" land. You wanna bet you'll hear before I do? 😉
