i think there are a lot of us here and a long, long WL. so the list is unranked... when was your letter postmarked??? nov. interview, WL dated 3/21

:luck:

turned in application in december, interviewed in Jan, waitlisted 3/21, postmarked 3/22, Seattle area. But I have low numbers for Wash U standards, surprised not to be rejected.

february interview, waitlisted letter dated 3/21/05.

me = sad.

waitlisted 3/21 interviewed 2/25

Wouldn't it be nice if everyone on this forum (assuming less than 50) on waitlist all get in!

Interviewed October, received waitlist letter 3/22. Good luck to everyone on this thread! :luck:

Have you guys put in your financial aid information into the Wash U site? I wonder when you need to do this by? I mean, is there a rush since we don't know if they will get to us on the list? Just curious, b/c I already gave them all my info on the fafsa.

December Interview, 3/21 waitlist.

I've heard that about 50 students in past entering classes have come off each waitlist. But does anyone have a clue how large the waitlist is? Am I still in a huge group of applicants like when we were all post-interview-pre-decision?

Salud and good luck!

Why am i getting the feeling this list is HUGE and that everyone they didn't reject or accept as of March 17 made it onto the waitlist?

Do you guys think a letter of intent would make a difference at this point?

Interviewed early December. Postmarked 3/21.

You're probably right KiwiFruit. And I don't think I've heard of many post-interview rejections from WashU, either. Just 1 or 2 so far.

Applied/Interviewed/Accepted/Enrolled= 2,998/1,085/337/122 (from other WashU thread)

Considering that they interview 1000 people (what's the deal with that? What med school interviews a third of their applicants.), the waitlist is probably around 600-700 people, assuming they reject at least 10% post-interview (which I'm not sure is the case). Geez.

I do think a letter of intent would help you get off the waitlist if that truly is your first choice. It's not a guarantee, but if you would seriously drop all your acceptances and waitlists for that school, then writing it will definitely not hurt you.

waitlisted 3/21. Did they send out all of the waitlists on the same day? Has anyone who interviewed after January been accepted?

I was waitlisted on 3/21 too...interviewed 12/09. I think we all need some support, especially if their waitlist is as long as we suspect.

Just curious...are you guys waitlisted at other schools? is Wash U your first choice? Any other acceptances? We should support each other b/c we might be waiting for a long time! Happy thoughts! And good luck to all! 😀

Washu is my only waitlist, but I'm pretty sure its my top choice. I got into Columbia and UTSW, but I think Washu is a better school with friendlier people.

I'm also waitlisted at Mayo, which is my first choice as of right now, although it is something of a tie between the two. Either one would be excellent. Good luck to all!

Ugh, add me to waitlist mania 🙄

Why give definitive answers when you can just add someone to the waitlist?

kiki the alto, you must be one of my sdn twins. I'm waitlisted at both schools, too.

So I must confess I was excited to get the waitlist, but am thoroughly disappointed to find out that it is unranked and that we have no idea as to how long the dumb thing is. I called today, and both of those facts are confirmed, quite pleasantly, by the secretary at the admissions office. Anyone have any insider info?

Interview November
3/21 waitlist

Yes, Wash U succeeds in pissing off a lot of applicants by:
- inviting people to apply based on high MCAT scores
- interviewing too many applicants
- not rejecting enough applicants

In effect, they give a lot of people no clue as to where they stand and arguably give a lot of people false hope.

... Excellent school, but horrible admissions process.

WashU is actually one of six schools that I'm waitlisted at, as well as my top choice. this has been a very aggravating process.

interviewed January
Waitlist late march

That's awesome, maygirl...I have an SDN twin...yay! (poing poing poing). Deciding which of the two was my top choice was tough for me, for sure. Which would you rather hear from?

I have absolutely no idea - I already thought of the pros and cons of each, and it's hard. While I'm hoping for the best (getting accepted at either), I'm wondering how good my chances are with the mile-long waitlist at WashU and the 70-people waitlist (for 10-12 spots) at Mayo. Eh. I think I'm leaning ever so slightly towards Mayo (because of the $ and let's face it, that school and hospital is incredible). I'm really not that crazy about either of the schools' location, though, even though I'm from the Midwest.

So the info I have (I'm also on the waitlist):

My friend and I received two different waitlist letters. Mine uses words like "fully qualified" and "thrive here" while his says only "qualified" and left out the entire paragraph that says how they believe the applicant will thrive at their school... also, mine says that at least 50 people will be accepted, and his leaves this fact out. but his says that the wait list is unranked while mine does not mention that... does anyone know anything about this?? we both agreed that my letter was much more positive than his, but beyond that we weren't really sure what to think.

the admissions office described the number of people on the wait list as "a few shelves full of applications"... ugh.

and finally... they dont think that anyone will be accepted off of the waitlist until mid-May or later.

Thanks for the information...that's quite interesting. I have the same letter as you...maybe that's promising....however, the part about "shelves full of apps" is rather disappointing.

Best of luck to everyone!! And keep us posted if you get accepted/rejected off of the waitlist! (I might be one of the first to be rejected!)...I just got my 4th waitlist today...at this point, it just feels like--reject me already! geesh...no, it's better not to be rejected, I guess...there is still hope!

Keep the information coming! I appreciate... 😀

thrivin' over here too...

dunno what the real difference is, but it's not a bad thing to have the more positive letter... how many of us are there?

:luck:

Well, I'm ashamed to say that i'm not a thriver. (I didn't really expect to be - i have a low mcat..well, below average for WashU). 🙁

I think there's obviously some tier system with the waitlist. I got the less optimistic letter, and even though the date was the same for everybody, I got my letter about 5 days later than other waitlistees in the same state. So I think they chose some people to be on the top tier and sent them the optimistic letter, and then sent anyone else remaining the less optimistic letter.

Yeah, I may be reading too much into this, but WashU is seriously pissing me off at this point. I'm going to relax and get some ice cream or something.

nice detective work, gz! you're a credit to SDN 😎

anyway, yeah, i got the 'positive' letter with 'fully qualified' and 'thrive' and all that jazz. still, i'm not really feeling too good about my chances. so they interview 1000, and accept, let's say they accept 200 up front. let's also say they reject 100 post-interview. that leaves 700. if half of the remaining applicants gets each variant of the waitlist letter, that means we're still competing with ~350 people.

yes, i realize i made up all of those numbers. i am now officially crazy, ending my 22-year stint as unofficially crazy. :scared:

someone say something logical and informed to make up for my post! hurry!!!

Actually, from what I've heard, your guess of 350 isn't too far off. Good work.

i think it's based purely on MCAT
34+ or some such cutoff

:luck: all around anyway

i am thriver, grades below average, mcat at average.

I have a 34. *hangs head* 😳

My interview wasn't outstanding. It was good, but not my best. And I haven't sent any letters of interest or update letters. So all in all, i really shouldn't be surprised.

ETA: Anyone else get the second version of the letter? I just want to know whether it's worth staying in the game at this point. I have other schools that I'm waitlisted at, and would rather write a letter of intent to a school that I have a chance to be accepted at.

NAH. Let's just face it. It's just ME.

It's okay. I'm strong. I can take rejection.

😉

Can anyone tell me if this is bad..... I interviewed in Oct and still have heard nothing. Did they forget about me or just refused to dignify my interview with a response?

37 and I am not a thriver. So, I don't think it is solely based on MCAT scores.

This two letter thing is so bizarre.

Im going to second the annoyed at WashU for interviewing too many ppl and not rejecting anyone sentiment.

37 MCAT and I am a thriver. Definitely not based on MCATs. But here's something wierd. I got my letter on Friday 3/25. The letter was dated 3/21. I live in St. Louis County for goodness sake! People in CA got their letter before I got mine! Either we have a really bad mail system around here, or they sent those letters out alphabetically. (My last name starts with a U).

Did anyone write anything on their response letter? The small print said to add any comments on the reverse. I simply typed up another letter of interest/update.

Thriver here...Def not based on MCAT. But only a 34/3.74 = Lower 1/3 of applicants (according to my interviewer!) I thought I was out for sure. My interview didn't go so well either.

Good luck everyone! Letters of intent must be piling in the office...I'm sending one, how's about you guys? I'm only on like a million waitlists...I still can't figure out what Wash U wants with me...it must be a social experient to let in one idiot (me) per class to see how they do. 😀

hmmm, seems like an awful lot of us are "thrivers"...hard to tell what this means, though. SDN usually does a pretty good job of distorting what really goes on in this process. maybe we're the only ones who got 'special letters'

anyway, i'm not writing an LOI or anything like that. since soooo many people seem to do that, i just figure "f**k it," if they want me, they'll take me. if they don't, life goes on.

good luck everybody, and keep us posted on current developments! 😉 :luck:

This is just my $.02, but I think that it is a mistake NOT to write a letter of interest ( or a letter of intent). From what everyone has been saying, you have to keep yourself in the competition and make them know that you are there. Don't have regrets afterwards thinking, gee, I really should have written to Wash U. Really, how long will it take you to sit down and put something on paper? Again, sorry to interfere with your thought process but I just thought that mabe a "2nd opinion" would help. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. :luck:

well, since i'm currently pulling my hair out trying to decide between the acceptances i'm holding, i have reservations about writing an LOI. first, there's a small part of me that's actually worried about getting in, because it would further complicate matters regarding my decision. second, since i'm already deciding between acceptances, i kind of feel some perverse sense of loyalty to the schools who wanted me enough not to waitlist me.

still, thanks for the input. now i'm at least thinking about writing them. who knows, maybe i'll do it after all. 😉

As our "beloved" ex-president would say, "I feel your pain." For some of us who have been fortunate to have a choice as to where we want to go, the choosing can almost kill you. Of course, the school I want most, is the school I am waitlisted at, but I am going to keep in touch until they finally give up and accept me , just to get me off of their backs 😉 As far as the loyalty to the schools that have accepted you, that is a really nice sentiment and now you are making me feel a little guilty, but not guilty enough to not write another LOI to my waitlist. You must be a much kinder and gentler soul than I am. 😳

ok, so i got the waiting pool letter and it was the favorable one, at least tahts waht it sounds like when my mom told me......can anyone please pm me what it says cause my mom was vague and choppy when she was telling me, msn is nto the best communicator. thanks!!!

Hey everyone, good luck on the waitlist! I and many of my classmates were in your exact position this time last year and I can tell you that many people do come off the waitlist and its worth the wait. Most likely a lot of you will get a happy phone call from Dean Dodson mid-may, and hopefully many of you will come join us next year. good luck

hey velocypedalist, so would you say writing letters of interest/intent/updates helped you and your classmates get off the waitlist? thanks.

That's cool and all, I guess. But is anyone else as pessimistic as I am about getting off that damned waitlist? I mean, they interview 1100 and accept like 300. Not good odds, folks.

right here with you.

Well I'm a thriver with only a 3.55 gpa and a 33 MCAT.

Personally I think Wash U should admit me for diversity. You don't want *all* your students to be smart.

I second going out for some ice cream, Maygirl.
