Well I'm a thriver with only a 3.55 gpa and a 33 MCAT.

Personally I think Wash U should admit me for diversity. You don't want *all* your students to be smart.

I second going out for some ice cream, Maygirl.

I honestly think that they just decided that it would be less boring to send two different waitlist letters, assuming we wouldn't compare. They may have just randomly given one letter to some people, and a different letter to others. I dunno.

This is only according to SDN profiles, but Wash U MCAT scores range from
a low of 31 (1 student) to a high of 42 (a few). GPA goes from a low of 3.57 to 4.0. 2nd year there has to be a killer with everyone competing for grades. Even with a 38 on the MCAT, you can easily wind up in the bottom half of the class. Pretty scarry! 🙁

true, but unless you want to go into a super selective residency just coming out of wash u will set you up for life.

I person who scores a 42 on the MCAT isn't necessarily going to be #1 there. Personally, I think I'd be as competitive as any other student there.

Just as a note, I am a Wash U med student and this rumor about competition that never seems to leave is just wrong. The grades are not curved. Think about it this way, the standards are high to get in, but once you are in there is no need to compete with the other students. Just yourself.

We all work together. We have a website that shares reviews and old exams. It is not like we are all trying to get the same residencies.

Just a thought.

Thanks for the post. I actually really liked the environment and the students' attitudes, which is why Wash U is one of my top choices...not because of the rankings, etc. Although for my parents, ranking is everything, if you know what I mean. But I'm glad you just confirmed that is really the case, and not a show people put on for the interviewees.

wouldn't it be great if they could tell you where you stand and your chances of being accepted? From an inside source I heard they rank based on a "score" you get.

I found out I was accepted on Monday 😀 and I was number 13 on the list. The list is moving quickly b/c Monday at noon I was #1 and then two hours later I was accepted. I bet its moved a bunch more by now.

You can always call up and check. They're very friendly.

I think it helps to write a letter (I wrote one), but from what I have heard all applicants are ranked so the letter can't really affect your placde very much.

Ok, so i finally had time to call the admissions office. i spoke with a very friendly woman who told me that the students on the waitlist are NOT ranked, and that they are supposedly all reviewed periodically when more acceptances need to be issued. so there it is everybody, uncertainty reigns supreme! bwahahahahaaaaaa!!!

I've been down about being only waitlisted and rejected at many places, to be suddenly accepted by one of my top choices... I feel like I've been on a emotional rollercoaster ride. I really loved this school, the new teaching facilities are simply going to be amazing. Anyway, best of luck to y'all.
