ahumdinger said:here it is guys, the official 2006 WashU Waitlist Thread. Come all neurotic applicants to freak out and discuss conspiracy theories. Oh, and to update each other on waitlist movement.
Good luck everyone!
sucksabigone said:add me to the list. waitlist. i heard that they waitlist everyone post interview...is that true? if so, their waitlist must be a few miles long.

Gracey103 said:When did you guys get ur waitlist letter, when was it postmarked and where do you live? Heheh..i sound neurotic.. I live in Cali...maybe I'll get mine today..![]()
ahumdinger said:I live in St. Louis, 5 blocks from the school. My letter was dated 3/17, I didn't check the postmark on the envelope, but the letter arrived on tuesday, 3/21.
I really really hope they don't waitlist everyone. That would really ruin the excitement of having gotten waitlisted.
so what's the distribution of the two "types" of letters? I got the "thriver" letter, but from last year's thread, it seems to be pretty random.
rosiemary said:I live in the LA area and got my waitlist letter yesterday (3/22). It was postmarked on 3/20. Does anyone know if there is just one type of letter/waitlist. My letter says it is an unranked waitlist.
ahumdinger said:my letter does not tell me that the list is unranked, but it does mention that they expect to give out 50 more acceptances before the start of school in August.
From what I gather in years past, the 50 acceptances is an underestimate. Traditionally WashU has to give out ~300 acceptance overall, to fill the class of 120.
chanjurban said:I think that they actually initially over fill the class. Then after the fallout, approximately 50 waitlists are pulled.
STL81 said:I got my letter on the 21st. It was not the "good" version, so I am not too optimistic. I even went to Wash U undergrad.... Oh well.
Gracey103 said:All of you guys have insane MCAT scores and GPAs. Makes me feel hopeless.. 🙁

GoodEats said:Just got it, too, postmarked 3/20. The first couple sentences were such a tease, too, when it says "Your application for admission to our 2006 First Year Class has been carefully evaluated by the Committee on Admissions, which have determined that you are fully qualified for admission." But then you get the "However,..."
Anyways, good luck to everybody.
Oh yeah, and is there any movement off of the waitlist before May 15th?
As someone who has gotten both - yes.amandil said:waitlisted "thriver." Is there really a waitlist letter version that doesn't include that sentence and the info about accepting 50 people before august?
mail post-marked 3/20, arrived today in Indiana.
somewhere2010 said:thriver here too! dated 3/16, postmarked 3/20, got it today in DC. i think i'll stay on the waitlist, though not sure...i'm kind of ambivalent about it cuz i can't remember that many details about the place!
briefly, how traditional is the curriculum? are they really in class a lot? is it a pretty competitive atmosphere there?
anyone else on the fence and can share their reasons why?
thanks all! 🙂
Kazazzle12 said:My mom just read me my waitlist letter... I got the "thriver" one too.
This morning, I was pretty sure I knew where I was going next year. Now I'm just confused. WashU has been my dream school for ages, but it's a lot farther away from my boyfriend than I would be at my other school... 🙁
I feel like my life just turned into that whole "Love or Medicine" thread that was popular a while back 😛

tiffany96 said:haha trust me - i understand the dilemma! i'm already making my boyfriend leave his sunny hometown in southern cali to be with me in nyc, so i can go to columbia. but can i make him leave it for st. louis, where none of his friends will be? i'm thinking no....
so columbia 2010 it is! best of luck to everyone on the waitlist - i hope everything works out and you end up getting in! the school is AMAZING, and if it weren't for the whole boyfriend thing, u could bet i'd be writing some serious letters of intent
Kazazzle12 said:Good luck Tiffany! Columbia is awesome - I'm sure you guys will love NYC.
My boyfriend is being amazingly supportive and wants me to write a letter of intent. It might have something to do with the fact that WashU has been my dream since I was in high school (first for undergrad and now for med school) and I talk about it all the time 😛 He doesn't want me to regret later on that I didn't pursue the chance to go there when I had it. I know I'd be happy at Emory, especially since he'd be pretty close by, but WashU is... well, WashU! 😍
But I'm not sure if going to even my dream school would be worth the distance. I guess I've got a lot to think about this weekend. Another excuse to not be working on my thesis... 🙄
tiffany96 said:i understand! my boyfriend was willing to come with me, but in my case, i loved columbia, too, and nyc is too much for me to turn down. my brother is there, all of my friends are there - so it all worked out and i'm not really giving anything up at all. yeah - i think i'm one of the few very lucky premeds.
congrats both on your admission to emory AND on getting yourself such an awesome boyfriend! i'm sure a letter of intent will go pretty far, and good luck on getting to your dream school!!
i'm not sure exactly where your boyfriend will be, but i've done the distance thing for quite some time - up to 8 months at one point while he was in cali and i was on the east coast, with only 1 visit inbetween! what i can tell you is that, while it's hard, it'll be easier simply because you'll be so busy, and if you decide you can make it work, it's fully possible. will he also be in school? any chance he may be in the midwest at any point in the next few years?
Kazazzle12 said:Haha - I started a thread last week ("Best Acceptance Letter Ever") about my boyfriend. Check it out if you want a good laugh 😉
He'll actually be at UAB doing his MD/PhD, so it'll be at least 4 years (when I finish med school) until we'll be in the same place again. I have full faith that we'll make the distance thing work no matter what, but Atlanta-Birmingham is an easy drive, whereas St. Louis would be a lot lot farther away... I know in the end, we'll make the best of whatever happens, but right now I'm just nervous about doing this whole long-distance thing for the first time.
Thanks for the advice! Keep it coming if you have more 🙂
GasGuy2010 said:I think all of them say "Thrive" "fully qualified" and "50 acceptances"
ahumdinger said:why do you think this? chanjurban got the other letter that does not say any of the above. In fact, chanjurban has gotten both letters (he received the thriver-letter when he applied last year)
there may not be any significance to the 2 formats, but there are definitely 2.

chanjurban said:🙂 Hee.hee. Didn't think I needed to join the gender-bender thread, but apparently my username is misleading in gender... I've actually carried a child to term for 9 months![]()

lastleg said:Guys, I am having a hard time believing that all of us got the more positive letter. I am not saying there aren't 2 different types of letters, but it seems that probably the majority got the "thriver" letter. In fact, after looking at 2005 mdapps who were not accepted to WashU, just about every one was waitlisted (only one was rejected, and I looked at a lot of them). Also, one of the mdapps people this year (Emory undergrad, 37 mcat) that was waitlisted said she was placed on a "High priority waitlist," whatever that is. So, while it is good to think that we have a better chance than others to get in off the waitlist because of the "thriver" letter, I think it is more wishful thinking than anything else. I'm still gonna hang on anyway, though. Good luck.
