Why call today? I thought the next call in date was at the end of the month?

I was talking about getting an interview itself, not an interview decision. They decide on who gets interviewed at the beginning of every month, then mail out the invites.

in the previous application cycle, i received an interview invite about one week after submitting my secondary. i received the interview invite at the end of november for a january interview.

so, i'm guessing that they probably meet every week for sending out interview invitations.

If you call and ask, they will blatantly tell you that they meet once a month, at the beginning, to review files for possible interview invites. Then they mail out the invites. If you look at the interview invite thread, they always come in spurts and are mailed out the same day, once a month.

I usually will call about the 15th to see if they made a decision on my file or not. If you were passed over they tell you that you are in the 'possible interview' group (this is equal to a pre-interview hold). If they invited you, they will also (presumably) tell you that an invite is on it's way. I talked to the girl today and she told me the decisions should be made by Friday, and to call back then if I want to check my status. If I'm still on hold on Friday, then I won't be reviewed again until February (per the admissions office).

I'm just trying to make what the office told me clear for those of us still hoping to get some love from Wayne this cycle. It's a lot less stressful to watch the mailbox for a few days than all the time for a possible interview invite.

Crimson, are you in state or OOS? Man, I was hoping that they were a little farther down the MCAT line than a 33 last month...maybe they'll hit down to 30 or 31 this month so that I'd have a shot of getting an interview in Feb. How late does Wayne interview?

I'm OOS and applied late. I wasn't complete until mid October. They gave us a sheet at the interview with the dates they make acceptance/rejection decisions, and it looks like they send out their last acceptances on March 26th. I assume this means they continue interviewing through March.

I interviewed today (with Dr. Norman!) and he mentioned that they were going to try to interview until March-ish (he was pretty vague), and then after March, they would fill any remaining spots in the class with people off of the alternate/waitlist (instead of with new interviewees). It sounded like there was a difference between the "alternate list" and the "waitlist", but all he would tell me was that "they meant different things at different times."

Got an interview invite today for feb.

For what it is worth, I sent them a update/LOInterest around New Years.

8 days to go...I'm freaking out!

Agreed. I got their letter dated 12th Dec on 9th January or something. I thought it was just me as I am in western Canada. But apparently, postal system is just 👎

I'm surprised there are so many Canadian applicants to Wayne St. on the boards.

It's because we can't get into Canadian schools. Sad truth.

Edit: I can't get Wayne to send me an invite, so I am in no way saying that American schools or Wayne are easy!

Now, I know people have posted earlier that WSU takes people in till the end, and adds a few more people to its class at each interview. But I also hear that schools end up filling up their classes early and then are just interviewing to kill time or fill up waitlists. Any one know definitely which case applies to WSU? I am hoping for the sake of all of us who are still waiting that its the former, rather than later.

Oh, and anyone here get a ITLS certification, or know if its of any value? Previously, ITLS was called BTLS.

Seven days to another hard day, keep your heads up ya all

Cheers

I know for a fact that Wayne takes people to the end. They accept 1/7th of their class every month, so you have a fair shot if you get invited, even if it's really late. This year were getting screwed though, cause the 30 that were deferred last year, and the 14 medstart coming in this year. Thats 44 spots taken right off the bat.

Hmm, strange. If it is indeed true, then it doesn't explain why this person http://www.mdapplicants.com/viewprofile.php?id=8496 received an invite on 10/11 for 11/20, or why my friend who has a 30 mcat interviewed in December. Did you apply late? I'm not certain, but I believe my friend applied in August. Maybe it has to do with an ECs/LOR rating in addition to mcat?

That is me! I got my invite to interview in October and was accepted in November. I don't think they go just by the MCAT, because obviously mine is a 31. Ironically I was told that my GPA was kinda low during my interview, but I was only told that after my interviewer said that he saw no problem with me getting accepted. I guess he was trying to keep me on my toes! 🙂

3.7 BCPM and 3.8 overall is a low GPA? As for the 31 MCAT it is a solid score. You were an above average applicant just by numbers and your extracurriculars were good too. It's no surprise.

Anyway, I was also accepted in December last year with a November interview. 30Q August MCAT and GPA at that time was between a 3.4 and 3.5. I did have an April MCAT and it was a 29M (Gotta love the M). The GPA subsequently went up after the Fall semester and even more after the Winter semester but that didn't play a role at the time.

I am an out of stater and interviewed mid october. I was then deferred in november..the day after christmas I got a letter by postal mail saying I was accepted (best present ever!!) dated Dec. 19th. This gives me the impression that they review everyone they have interviewed every time they meet.

Congrats on your acceptance! Question for you, as I am in the deferral position. Did you send any kind of update letter, letter of interest, etc. between the November and December adcom meetings? Thanks!

Yeah I have a feeling he was saying that to back track on telling me that I would probably be accepted (since it would suck if I was not accepted!)

This wait is killing me! It doesnt help that I just got waitlisted at MSUCHM either.... Here's hoping to not getting another waitlist!

call-in date wednesday, who's nervous?

Any of y'all have any advice for us upcoming interviewees?

Know your app and ECs, my interview was pretty much "tell me about activity X, Y, and Z." Not really much to stress out about!

I wish I had a time machine, I would just crank it up to two day ahead and ask, but guess I have to suffer through waiting, specially since I have no other interviews 🙁 and I already got alternate listed on WSU

Come on WSU, show me some love, L O V E, show me so love...I would look funny with pom poms.
hehe

Cheers

HKT586 and Doc Callaway: when were you complete?

lil'trooper, sorry it took me so long to reply --havent been here for a while, but I was complete in mid-august (probably by 8/15 or so)

Where do you meet for the 12 oclock tour?

so I JUST returned from my interview. It was ...on the short side. I was done in about 20 mins 😱. And then I had to prolong it by talking about random stuff. I hope short = good. 😕

My interviewer asked me a couple of standard questions. Some stuff about my volunteer work. And then it was my turn to ask questions.

Sigh and now I wait for a month.

Meanwhile I should go study for my two midterms. :scared:

what are your stats (gpa, mcat, ec, instate/outofstate, etc)?

GPA: 3.8 overall. 3.9 BCPM

MCAT: 33S

OOS/ International. (Canadian)

I got an interview for 2/8. So happy!!!!

What do you do between the tour and the interview if there is a considerable gap, 1.5 hrs?

you could do a few things...

1) Sit in a lecture if time permits. we couldnt do this as the first years had exam on this particular day
2) We just sorta hung out with our tour guides and they talked about the different interviewers.
3) You could explore the hospitals/building all on your own.
4) bite your nails while you wait for your interviewer to arrive 😀

1) We had a brutal biochemistry exam yesterday. There was blood and guts everywhere... a real massacre.
2) I know several of the tour guides and they are pretty candid when it comes to the pros and cons of Wayne State SOM. You should definitely seek their opinion on issues like life in Detroit, the curriculum, things they hate about the administration, etc.
3) I wouldn't recommend going around the hospitals by yourself. Its a big place.
4) ;-)
