Heh thanks, what held me back was my lack of clinical experience. I actually started my hospital and nursing home volunteering in August, which was not included in my primaries. I had previous clinical exposure but they weren't as extensive and were well before college.

Its been a tough application season. I wouldn't be surprised if the average matriculant stats at Wayne State were 3.6 GPA and 32 MCAT.

Seems like Wayne is really favoring the Canadians! Out of all the in-staters I know that applied, only two got invites! And I'm talking about 10-12 people with solid stats. It is a tough year.

My clinical experience was about 50 hrs of shadowing...so it can be done at Wayne, several ppl thought this would be a problem for me (which it might of at other schools).

what a day, I didn't get even a single minute to call in to check, and now it sux cause it takes like three weeks for mail from WSU to get to me if I got accepted off the alt list. And WSU took a bunch of Canadians, and I was hoping to ride on that wave....Oh, the agony

I'm going to be a doctor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😱😱😱

I still have butterflies and I got the news this morning at noon local time (I'm OOS)! After applying to 12 schools I was down to 3, Wayne being one of of them. I got waitlisted at one, have a march interview at the other, and got accepted to Wayne!!!

Honestly I wasn't sure what to think of Wayne and Detroit before my interview, but after seeing the school and hospitals first hand I was VERY impressed by the educational opportunity at Wayne. The real world training there seems hard to beat. Unless a miracle happens at my instate school over the next few months I will be attending Wayne for sure. I feel so blessed 😍

For those interested, I have a 3.75 undergrad, 32Q, and what I would consider a healthy list of ECs.

well... I've been waiting about a year for this.... I got in today as well!!!😀

I am so thrilled and look forward to meeting some of you at Wayne in the fall!!! I am definitely still in shock from my phone call today.... and for those of you who are curious, I have a 3.6/28S (Yeah underdogs!!! It IS possible!!)

I'm Canadian with a 3.9/31P and really good EC's with good clinical exposure. I'm a reapplicant and my downfall the last cycle was the lack of clinical experiences so I definitely worked to boost that this year. 😀 Getting accepted is difficult as hell but it CAN and WILL happen if you really want it...it's only a matter of time. PERSEVERANCE = success in the medical school admissions process. Just my 2 cents.

And Piyush, please call tomorrow because I really wanna hear of your acceptance soon! 😀

My father did his Residency/Fellowship in Oncology there, and my Uncles were there for Medical School, Residency, and Fellowship.

I have heard from a couple of doctors that this should help my chances of getting in, any truth to that?
Also, given my stats, what MCAT score do I need in order to be accepted?

Not sure if legacy is considered by the adcom, but it might show your commitment to the school. Would you consider Wayne State among your top choices? When you are interviewed, you should definitely mention it.

i think that it can come into play. my dad graduated from wayne med and i got in so it can only help. of course, im sure other attributes were taken into consideration.

being a legacy does certainly help. however, because your dad didn't attend the medical school, you may not have as strong of a pull.

you should considering becoming a resident of canada, because apparently that is getting people into wayne...

They sure do accept letters....or at least that is what I was told when I asked a while back. When I called to see if my status had changed from anything but alternate yesterday, I also asked if the letter I had recently mailed had made it into my file and it did.

It's been my dream to go there -- my parents and doctors kept asking me to turn down the invite to undergo needed surgery... I really hope they realize that's how important Wayne is to me!!! I'm already turning down other interview invites cuz of my health... but I was NOT about to turn down Wayne...

I sent a letter of interest/update about 1 1/2 pages long single spaced after my fall semester and before recieving an interview invite. For some reason I think having this in my file at decision time probably helped. I think I sent it at the mythical "perfect" time.

Me: I like to draw and paint. I particularly like to draw cartoons and can draw a cartoon for you if you ask me.
Dean: Oh, you should have a booth and be like one of those on the streets painting for people.
Me: I know, eh? Why did I apply to medicine? *in a JOKING manner of course*
Dean grows silent and moves on to the next person immediately. Some people laughed though.

Hey Guys,

I just received an interview invite for April 17 and I am going to have to reschedule because I cannot make it that day. I was wondering if anyone who recently also received an invite was planning on declining so we can switch. Because when I called in to reschedule they said that if I tried rescheduling, I would be first taken off the date I am scheduled for and then if something came up I would get that spot; and its possible that I might not even get a new spot. Any suggestions or ideas?

Well one of two things may have happened. They didn't get to our files yet or they got to our files and haven't come to a final decision. Either way, I think if they did review our files and wanted to reject us, they would have let us know, right? Unless they send rejections by snail mail and then we'd just have to wait it out.

But it was fun staying with you and so that's what I choose to get out of that trip! 😀

For everyone that’s stressing over the various stats, while doing some clutter clearing this weekend (getting ready to move this summer – where, oh where is the Match going to send me?) I stumbled across the statistic sheet that WSU-SOM gave the tour guides a couple of years ago (stats are of the 2005 entering class).
If y’all feel the need to see them I might be able to find the time to post them.
Keep in mind that the applicant pool changes every year (consequently so do the stats) and that the class of 2009 is pre-increase (matriculated 260 vs the current ~300).

Thanks much blitzburgh for opening up another interview spot! I just called Wayne's admissions office, and they said they've sent out all of their March and April interviews. However, for those of us who are still in the 'possible interview pool,' which frankly I'm quite sick of being in, if enough people decline interviews then they will draw from this infamous pool. So if anyone else out there is thinking about declining a recent interview invite from Wayne, PLEASE PLEASE notify them asap so the rest of us may still have a chance. I can't even being to relate how bad I need this to happen. Thanks in advance everyone for your consideration.
