why would a school interview you if the class is filled? Obviously they already have a waitlist so there's no reason to interview you if theres no space in the class. Even if its only one spot, why wouldnt you go to the interview.

i keep seeing these type of posts all over SDN. The real question is, why does it matter? I'm assuming you'd go to the interview regardless of whether the answer was a yes or a no, so it shouldn't make a difference. And just to let everyone know, I personally know people that got accepted literally just a few weeks prior to class starting, so just chill back for a while and ride the wave. And im not singling you out Kirby, I'm saying this to everyone that has these worries. People will withdraw, seats will open, and these sits will get filled.

yeah that makes sense...i guess im just getting ahead of myself..thanks for the reply

What do the insiders like oldjeep think about April interviews? Is there any realistic chance of getting in?

Not sure that I’m truly an insider, but as I have previously stated:

oldjeeps said:
1. Your chances of getting in are significantly higher than they were before you got interviewed.
2. Worst case, you can use this opportunity to get a little practice for future interviews.

In my mind any interview, regardless of how late, is infinitely better than no interview – because you at least get a shot at something, even if it is only the alternate list.
Which is why in an application cycle prior to getting in at WSU, I once drove 10+ hours (each way) for an interview in early July for a shot at a spot on an alternate list.

Traditionally, WSU has taken a large number of people off from its alternate list (including me - BTW I interviewed at WSU in late March). However, that (like the average stats) may be changing. Case in point is the fact that a year ago they had to bribe some accepted applicants into deferring because they had over accepted. What that means for this (and future) application cycle(s) I have no idea.

Just did my FAFSA last week, finished the scholarship app online today. Do all I have to do is sit and wait for a financial aid package now? Also decided I am living in Royal Oak come June 😍

Is there a "WSU COM Class of 2012" thread?

Also, we need more people to join the facebook group. I am sure Wayne gave out more than 9 acceptances.

I would join the facebook group if i could find it. Whats it called exactly?

Wayne State University School of Medicine: Class of 2012

Search "wayne medicine 2012" and you should be able to find it.

For those wondering, I spoke with Dawn in the admission office about late interviews. She said any interview that is offered is for regular admission, so if you have an interview that means you have just as good a shot as anyone else.

Have you sent the verification form and a copy of yours and your parents' tax returns yet? I guess they're supposed to send you an e-mail at your WSU account saying that they need this things, but I never got it. I was told this when I called the financial aid office to make sure they had received my FAFSA because I had never been notified.

But yes, I think FAFSA, scholarship app, verification form, and copies of taxes, are what you need to be "complete". The lady I talked to in financial aid last week said she expects that packages will begin to go out at the end of March or early April.

I finished my fafsa and scholarship app this morning!! I also talked to the financial aid lady...she said they will start awarding next week for government aid, but scholarships won't go out until late April-early May (after the committee meets). I am so stoked right now..for some reason when I got accepted it did not seem real, but turning in the paperwork to fund medical school did!! I am so excited!

I just had an interview at Wayne and here's what my interviewer told me: they do still offer direct acceptances, but there are not as many as at the beginning of the year, so there's a higher likelihood that you will be waitlisted. She said this shouldn't be discouraging though, a large portion of people that are accepted have been waitlisted at some point. That's just the name of the game, don't shoot yourself in the foot and decide not to go the interview b/c it's late in the season. Interviewing may be a time/money drainer, but it is the best investment you can make. Especially at a school like Wayne which has arguably the best clinical training available. BTW I'm OOS so there might be a separate waitlist/acceptance pool for IS vs. OOS. She never specified this.

I think your excitement will turn to depression after your tuition goes up another 11% and you find that lenders aren't giving incentives anymore for loans. 😉

Honestly though you should be excited and enjoy your summer.

😱 11% that sucks! I did not even know that lenders offered incentives...what kind would they offer? With my husband bringing in a decent salary, I am hoping to only take out enough to cover my tuition, books, and fees. Let the financial fun begin! 😉

Did you fill out those other documents about your parents income and send a copy of thier taxes? Some have mentioned doing this, but I haven't been emailed about it yet or cannot seem to find the links to the documents?

I kind of made up the 11% figure. I think it was actually higher than that.

Anyway, look around the school's financial aid website. You are going to need your access ID (2 letters then 4 numbers) and your nine digit WSU ID to do anything in terms of signing on to pipeline and anything else. If I remember correctly they should have mailed you the ID numbers along with your acceptance packet so you can sign into your main campus email and administrative websites.

Forms from the Financial Aid Office

First you'll need to do your FAFSA and taxes. Then you'll need to fax/mail/hand the "Verification Worksheet" from the bottom of that link along with your parents and your 1040s to the Finaid office. Then you'll need to apply for scholarships (although you can do that first as long as you have your access ID). Last is play around on pipeline and accept offers/check unsatisfied requirements you may still have. You'll also need to figure out what lender you want. (Which for all of us should be interesting as many previously good lenders have become hard to find).

Doc: I am considered independent, but I did my mom's information just in case. I think you need it for the scholarships even if you are independent!

TMP-SMX: Thanks for the info! I did not know I needed to do the verification worksheet. Should I go ahead and do the computer and child care ones right away too?

One point of clarification.
If you are planning on functioning on loans, only, and not trying for campus based aid then you do not need your parents tax information.
In my four years of filling out FAFSAs for WSU I never gave them my parents' tax info (partly because it would delay things too much - dang parents always filing an extension).

Well you really only need an estimate for campus based aid/FAFSA. Problem is if you don't give parental information you can't get scholarships either from Wayne.

And MDRunner all they need initially is the verif. worksheet. If they need more they will let you know on pipeline. The computer increase can be done at any time. P.S. get a mac. 😉

Should I wait till they request this stuff and let me know my FAFSA has been received? Or should I go ahead and send this stuff in?

This Worksheet?

Or the parental and student Asset Verification forms?

Thanks..I will send in that sheet in then! Also..I definately plan on a mac! We use them in my lab and I LOVE them! 🙂

Yeah that's the one. Either way it couldn't hurt. You can fax in the forms too if you want. Once you get your SAR from your FAFSA in general the finaid office has access to your FAFSA and you can check pipeline for your unsatisfied requirements. It should include sending that verification sheet and the taxes among some other things.

Just FYI, I called the financial aid office today and the woman I talked to said that aid packages should be going out next week.

She also said that they are switching over the technology they use for tracking aid info, so the pipeline page will continue to say that verification forms are "not received" until next week when it all updates, even if they have your info. They have many awards decided already also, but she said no one will be notified until next week because of the technology switch.

Is the Online Scholarship Application really just those handful of questions about your address/background/student status? Or is there a whole other part that I missed?

I was almost expecting essays, etc like all the apps we had to do in order to get to this point...

How does the committee decide...your AMCAS and interview?

lol! I called the fin aid lady after I filled that out because I could not believe that that was it! But it is..I wish the rest of medical school related applications were that easy! 😉

I also expected essays and was shocked at how simple it was. But nope, that's really it. I assume they'll use everything else in our application to determine awards.

Did you submit your verification forms and the copy of your and your parent's taxes yet? They have to have those things for you to be "complete." I never got an e-mail about this and only found out because I called to make sure if there was anything else needed.

Hey, you just joined me. I've been there since October and to be very frank with you, I've had it up to here.

For all those waitlisted, stay up. May will soon roll around and there will be a huge waitlist movement. As an applicant who had to try 3 times before getting in, I know it's very hard to wait but hang in there! I want you alive and well come August. 😀

edit: someone already posted the scholarship link

You know, I think there will be a lot of waitlist movement too. I suspect Wayne waitlisted more people this time around due to the whole overaccepting thing last year. So naturally, it should move more than last year too. I guess we'll see come May.

I'm on the alternate list as of today. Does anybody know if they have a separate alternate list for OOS vs. IS?

Waitlisted. Grrrrrrrr....

I'm on the alternate list as of today. Does anybody know if they have a separate alternate list for OOS vs. IS?

im sorry that you guys were waitlisted but its much better than a rejection. i know how tough the wait is but you just gotta hang in there cause you never know. as far whether or not they have separate lists for OOS I am not sure.

on a different note, i was just wondering how you guys think your interview went? also, were you told anything about the amount of spots still available for march and april?
