As some of you may know, Wayne State University has been relocating/re-affiliating its residency programs across Michigan. Many have moved to the Oakwood Hospital system including the department of PM&R.

Here is part of the problem. The foundation of the "principles of PM&R are not found on the PM&R ward. They are found in your clinic time.

I thought about what you wrote and you are absolutely right.

However, residents get their first taste of PM&R on the wards. Any faculty member who will be teaching these residents will certainly give them an intro to PM&R. Some outstanding teachers will be able to utilize the time and begin laying the frame work for clinic PM&R.

Just to avoid confusion, Wayne State University has a department of PM&R at the DMC/Rehabilitation Institute of MI. The residency at RIM has been around for over 40 years. Wayne State Students typically rotate at RIM.

There is a new residency with a different Wayne State Department of PM&R at Oakwood. The original department has been divided. Most of the faculty remained at the DMC.
