Hello everyone,

I am a rising sophomore and I am finding ways to build up my resume in hopes of attending dental school in the future. I have started shadowing an oral surgeon and I have signed up to be a running coach at a local kids triathlon camp. Does anyone have any suggestions for finding volunteer opportunities in the state of Maryland??? Would it be preferred by admissions' committees for their applicants to have volunteered at dental clinics? Thank you for your help.

Everything you suggested would put you on a great track. The important thing is not to do specifically dental-related experiences, but to show that you are a well-rounded, caring, interesting individual. Pursue extracurics that interests you, be in a sorority or tutoring or research. As for volunteering, there's def. lots of opportunities. Ask your local hospital, ask your local high school, or just look around your school campus for clubs that offer such opportunities.
