Wcu-com hit by Tornado

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thinking of everyone affected by the early morning tornados in Mississippi!! Lives were lost, young students were injured. WCU campus was badly damaged including damage to the COM.

Prayers to wcu

I'd try and show a bit more respect to the victims of the tornado. ~90% of the campus buildings were destroyed, and the school is closing until further notice. Imagine being a student there and this happened to you..
You're right. Pictures are now available on the local newspaper's site. The entire WCU campus has been destroyed. It looks like it took a direct hit.

Sorry yall, didn't realize it was this bad. Deleting post now. I figured it just broke some windows and scared people. That's pretty awful.

F4 tornado......unreal. I'm glad everyone is accounted for. Here's to a quick recovery, Hattiesburg!

This is so sad. A WCU student lost some fingers during the tornado...I pray nothing as severe as this happened to any other person. Thanks for the video NecrotizingFascitis.

@Goro

Do you think some of the Osteopathic schools will offer some aid/assistance to WCU?

Haven't a clue. Given the differences in curricula, it would be hard to take in students. I suspect that they'll be renting trailers for portable classrooms, or perhaps try something in the realm of long-distance learning.

So far all WCUCOM students are okay. The first and second years have been checking in with each other. The lecture halls are still intact but the roof fell on our OMM lab. The anatomy and clinical skills labs are destroyed. Arrangements are being to transfer cadavers and students are helping with clean up efforts around Hattiesburg. This is a difficult time and theres a ton of uknowns but WCUCOM is a tightknit community and I know we will pull through.

As for classes, are you guys continuing? Will 2nd years continue to study for boards

Classes for first and second years are postponed indefinitely, we dont have a functioning campus. We arent sure what the next step is but the administration will update us once things settle down. There is no timetable at the moment.

The anatomy and clinical skills labs are destroyed.

Any word on what contingency plan might be laid out for those OMS3 students who use those clinical skills labs? How would they conduct OSCE exams?

This is gonna be devastating.

The third and fourth years should be be fine because they only use the CS labs when theyre recalled from their rotation sites (which is very seldom). The first and second years are a different story since we use the CS and anatomy labs every week.

OP I hope you, your friends, and all other students are safe at your school.
My daughter also goes here and is suppose to stay in the dorms... I've never been so thankful she had stayed at home last night!

A classmate of myself and my daughter was at home in a town only a few miles away and his family's home was decimated . Thankfully he and his family made it through the tornado ok, and climbed out of the rubble.

We have no idea what's going to happen with the school... its closed for an undetermined amount of time. I was supposed to graduate in may.... from what I understand there has been talk of continuing the undergrad courses online since we are in the middle of a trimester. But everything is so uncertain. I can't imagine what effect this will have on the COM students.

If you pray, please say a prayer for the people in this area! Many people lost a lot, some lost their loved ones.

Woah, devastating. My heart goes out to all... in moments like these we realize how trivial some of our pre-med concerns are. Everyone stay safe!
