ohhhh i was not aware of this, i completely see why it is prob better not to be first class at a new DO school
hey! current oms1 at wcucom! let me know if you have any questions! obviously i'm biased, but I would say some differentiating factors for me last year, other than the obvious ones, were (in no specific order):
1) whether or not you value being close to family, and if you do, is it close to family? what about ease of access to airports etc if you had to get home and back quickly?
2) what the cost of living in each location is like if tuition is comparable?
3) do they have alumni that have matched into programs/specialties you would choose/could see yourself at?
4) are current students happy/well adjusted?
5) how many students drop out/drop to the next class
6) how many students match per graduating class
obviously at an older, more established school your gonna have a lot more data to make decisions off of, which is why like someone said above, older schools are typically more well recommended. but my biggest advice would be to really try to focus on whatever data and actual facts you can get and let those be your biggest delineating factors, even more than opinions on SDN! SDN is valuable for sure, but your own experience in knowing yourself and your needs should always be first on your school choice "differential!" let me know if you have an Q's!
