I remember that people were joking on SDN about people wearing scrubs to the MCAT. This guy walked in to our site with scrubs on and I could have died laughing!! I thought about all you SDNers!! He was sooo arrogant and tried to disrupt others and drew attention to himself like he was the king of standardized tests or something. He even commented that everyone else was nervous but him because he had taken sooo many tests and had this down pat! Ha Ha....

People that go out of their way to exude confidence are usually the most insecure of them all. I'll bet he scored in the low 30s - definitely not bad, but not anything to act like a champion about.

Scrubs are hot. Arrogance can go either way, sometimes hot, sometimes not.

what a tool. confidence or not just come in, take the test, and leave.

WHY would anyone wear scrubs??!! Severe lack of people contact perhaps...

Poor baby just wanted to be noticed, but his plan backfired because people are hating on him. I totally understand how people were put off by this, but maybe davesnow10 is right and he has a severe lack of people contact.

It's ok poor little scrub-wearing-MCATer. Let Innocent Girl give you some affection. 😉

I wore scrubs to last Sat's test... but I just did it cuz it was comfortable and thin (so not too hot).. and I only wore the bottoms.. and a T-shirt.. plenty of chicks did it too.. it is hot (if the chick has a nice body 😀 )

yeah, nothing like loosly fitting clothing on a hot girl. j/k

your signature is unnecessary and lame. i would highly recommend changing it to something nonreligious. displaying your religious beliefs to an internet forum with people posting with diverse backgrounds makes you seem somewhat narrowminded and obtuse. 🙄

I don't wear scrubs to the mcat just sweats but I do wear scrubs for anatomy lab can I get some affection too. 😀

Perhaps he had to go to work afterward. Even though I know most of us headed str8 to bed afterward. One things for sure, wearing scrubs can be addictive. I'm in a grad program and I'm in a lab so often during the week I forget I have regular clothes!
In any rate, its definitely not cool to try to intimidate others through your own arrogance; what a loser. I hope no one at your center fell for it.

Toaster in a bathtub for that guy. 👍

If that is you in your avatar, then YES! You have also aroused my curiosity with your username.

I wouldn't necessarily think that someone wearing scrubs would indicate that he/she is arrogant...unless it came along with attitude and cocky words. I see lots of people wearing scrubs who aren't even in the medical profession. Although I don't wear them regularly, I do know they are comfy and wouldn't mind wearing them as much as possible if I had some (solely for comfort reasons). THe med school I'll be attending has a strict dress code: either business casual (i.e. slacks, but no jeans) or scrubs. Guess which one I'll be wearing.

EXCUSE YOU!!! THIS IS NOT GOING TO TURN INTO A RELIGIOUS DEBATE!!! I HAVE THE RIGHT TO PUT ANYTHING IN MY SIGNATURE THAT I WANT TO!!! PEOPLE HAVE ALLLLLLL KINDS OF DEGRADING JUNK IN THEIR SIGS AND NOTHING IS SAID ABOUT IT....THE MINUTE SOMEBODY SAYS THEY BELIEVE IN JESUS, THERE'S A PROBLEM. I WILL NOT NOW, NOR WILL I EVER CHANGE MY SIG UNLESS I WANT TO....DON'T READ IT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO!!!!!!!!!

You may be trolling, but I'll bite anyway. After reading your post you seem to be the narrowminded one. There is nothing wrong with putting religious material in your sig as long as it doens't put anyone down or offend anyway. Perhaps you could use a little bit more tolerance towards these "diverse backgrounds" that you speak of.

Disclaimer: I am not religious.
THANK YOU!!!!!!! 👍

I like your sig and personally respect the fact that you do not hide your beliefs from others.

Gimme a break...should we all be afraid to express our beliefs for fear that we might offend someone? This nation was founded on religious freedom. It's not the "keep your religion in the closet" country.

We need to stand up and fight for our right to publicly celebrate our religions because if we don't, pretty soon they'll start trying to take away Christmas. Then what? Christmas lights too because they are offensive to epileptics (a brilliant episode of South Park comes to mind)?

Instead of getting all anal-retentive and bashing someone's beliefs, maybe come up with your own little replacement acronyms.

GPA = God Plugged my A$$
MCAT = My Colon's All Twisted

🙂

Hey, if wearing scrubs to the MCAT makes you feel all badass, then go for it...all else being equal on a standardized test, the most arrogant mofo will get the higher score. 😀

Not to be adversarial, but I thought the guy was just being sarcastic and joking. I didn't at all take him seriously. I'm sure he doesn't actually believe that. And yes, I put anything I want in my signature line too...this should be lighthearted fun...nothing to get riled up over. My 2cents anyway.

Nice. The only one showing intolerance is you

Calling someone out for wearing scrubs is lame... just like calling out someone for a signature... perhaps that was the point?

The whole "DON'T WEAR SCRUBS UNLESS YOUR A DOCTOR" thing is ******ed. They are ****!ng just clothes. If people want to wear them, whatever, it matters not. Wear them, don't wear them. They're just thin, cheap, poorly fitted clothes.

but, theyre the holy grail, man!!! its what us kids want to wear, man!!!

So when my day of the MCAT comes, I think I will be lucky to even get clothes on from all the butterflies I will have. I will probably wear scrubs, not to be a show off but because the scrubs I have came from my summer internship at Stanford and are very special 🙂 I think it will help for my attitude for the day, but that does not mean I will wear that attitude on my sleeve and treat everyone else rude. Everyone must feel everything I feel that same day and I would not want to make it bad for them. Everyone has their little traditions, their favorite pencil, their lucky song, something. Personally, I listened to Eminem everytime before a test for OChem and it did me good 😉 Michael Phelps does the same thing to so that should tell you something heheh

As for religion, a major question to ponder, not to offend, but I find it hard to believe in something higher and be a doctor. I feel that maybe I am playing with fate? Undoing what the higher being wanted done? SOmething I have thought about this past year. Would like any thoughts 🙂

Wearing scrubs to take the MCAT is like wearing a sandwich board that says "I'M A TOOL!" Neither of these really hurts anyone else, but it's a funny spectacle.
👍 Seriously I'm in med school but I don't wear my white to clubs and out on the town.

maybe he didn't have time to do his wash. 😛 Other than the arrogance i'm surprised people are making such a big deal out of scrubs. Personally I think scrubs are very comfortable and I'd want to be comfortable taking a test that could change my life. (i didn't bit if i didn't have comfortable clothes to wear...) There were girls at my site wearing their pajamas! 😳 I'm not sure what his reasons for wearing it are but why is everyone so offended?

i love the signature and it is certainly not the only one showing support for God/Christ. Where were you the week before the MCAT? I personally think people should keep God/Christ in their life at all times and not just when they need something, like a good MCAT score...but it's great for one to proclaim their faith. And I agree with Moosepilot, you are the one showing intolerance! God bless you!

My feeling is that God controls all things. When people pray for loved ones who are sick, they often pray for the wisdom and skills of the doctors operating on their loved ones. God gave the doctors their wisdom, skills, fortitude, pereserverance and every other characrter necessary to make one a skilled physician. It is through the doctors that God does his work We are his messangers in this world. It does not take anything away from doctors but it does give it to God, the creator and the one who deserves all our respect.

Disclaimer: this is my opinion, i am not trying to convert anyone!

i actually would have enjoyed a good laugh the day of my MCAT. It certainly would have been better than crying. 😉

I wore my scrub pants + T-shirt, why? For comfort! What is the deal here? Honestly, I recall certain faces at the MCAT, but what people were wearing is a total blur. Why is wearing scrubs so offensive? Oh, I guess it's the same reasoning as wearing athletic shoes though not an athlete...

I don't think there is anything wrong with wearing comfortable clothes. But let's be honest, scrubs are popular among premeds because it's symbolic of the profession we hope to enter. If scrubs belonged to another profession, such as Burger King employee or anything else, then I doubt premeds would be wearing them to the mcat. I understand ppl just want to be comfortable, maybe thats valid for the females who have their 'cycle' smack in the middle of the month and prefer to wear loose scrub bottoms, but guys who come fully decked out in scrubs are toolsheds. It's only a freaking exam, it's not like you're performing a twelve-hour partial ablation of the frontal lobe.

When I took my MCAT the second time, I wore a grungy Black Flag t-shirt and chewed up jeans that I found on my floor that morning. Everyone else was dressed like it was their last 4 hours on earth.

I agree with Psycho. A Christian doctor is using his talents for the service of his fellow man and that's not wrong. The two greatest commandments are love God and love your neighbor like yourself. I think medicine can easily fall into the second category.

After talking to my husband last night I think there are a lot of areas where God is still doing his attended path for the person through us. One situation I can not get over though is if someone is being held alive by machines. Would God want that for that person? I mean to be that close to death it would seem like God wants the person to join him and we are just messing with the path by keeping him alive? Hey thanks for all your thoughts so far, I am agnostic, not atheist 🙂, I don't think any of you are trying to convert or anything just telling your view, which I think is important, if you believe in a higher being, then you should be able to voice it, just as much as someone who doesn't. Isn't there some kind of Amendment for that 🙂 Ahh yes, Freedom of Religion 🙂....voice away then what you guys think of that situation, what would you do? Thanks!

lol one more thing, I am surprised no has said anything about my signiture then 😉

*Yawn*

Go Athena!

I didn't wear scrubs to my interview, but I do wear them for my job and I don't think it is that strange. Hell, I used to wear this "Champion" shirt every time I took a test.. sports players do weird stuff like that all the time. Why should we be any different? You do yourself a favor to have your "gameday" face on for MCAT day.

I agree with the guy below.. wear what you want when you want to. I was working in the ER yesterday and a PA student was commenting on a 16-year-old that ended her life moments before with cocaine and heroin that she must have had a hard life. She told me later that normal kids don't just dye their hair like that. How many of us know now-normal people who dyed their hair weird colors in high school. Does that make it somehow less tragic?

I wore ripped jeans and a Velvet Underground T-shirt. I did very well.

Bottom line: wear whatever you want. Even if it's scrubs.

Okay when I take step one I'll wear my scrubs, white coat and surgical bootyies and mask. Oh yeah don't forget the gloves. 🙄
