I am very excited that I got into med school,:biglove: I graduated. Its January,I want to prepare and am asking all of you what is the best way to do that.

1. Extra classes for exposure! I haven't taken anatomy or histology, and I will have a limited amount of time to master them. I want to go to a cc and take some upper div bio classes for no credit (i think its audit classes) That way I can at least recognize some stuff. For those who have tried auditing courses for exposure how did you do it?

What did you do after you got in?

I have been reading nonstop. A wide variety of subjects. I also have to work everyday... since I have bills to pay....

Pre-Studying anything seems to be low yield. The fact is CC won't go into the level of depth that will help you. The pre-exposure won't help you as much as you think.

Focus on getting yourself in the best position to succeed in medical school on day one. Get your medical/dental situation squared up. Update your clothes. Find out what of learner you are. Find a workout regiment that would work for your schedule. Find a meal plan for the week that is easy, simple and keeps you energized. etc etc

You'd be surprised friend.
I grow less and less surprised by human behavior in all its forms as I get on in years, but for reasons passing understand somehow I remain idealistic. Some people never figure it out.

If you've graduated from college/uni and going to medical school I'd think you better have figured this out by now.
A lot of people, myself included didn't know what the best method of learning for me was because medical school is a different type of challenge. Even with methods that are not time efficient, pulling off a good grade in a semester long class is possible. Having to take an entire semesters worth of classes in 3-4 weeks requires maximal efficiency.

Do NOT pre-study. Can't express this enough.

ENJOY YOURSELF. Take time off, travel, chill with friends, drink, play video games, movies, read some novels, but do NOT pre study. I can promise you when you start you'll be drowning in so much medical related jumbo you will forget to appreciate it and sometimes hate it (but you'll love it too).

Just enjoy the time you have now. During times where I am overwhelmed, I look back at that time off and feel so happy and at peace about it.

Pre-study is a waste of time.

Crack a cold one, smoke a few joints and get laid. You're going to miss being young before long.

Since I graduated 12/15, I've done a lot of stuff that I never got to do: working full time, started learning cello and now play in a community orchestra, learning to cook, moved in with my SO, buying all the things I want, gym 5-6 times a week. Life's been pretty great. Going to Europe for a month (June) prior to moving for med school. Do everything you want to do and won't be able to do for the next four years.

Awesome! I just want to make sure that i do well. This is a massive financial and personal investment. I have heard of ppl failing and I don't want to be one of them.

Also what do you mean by update my clothes? get more business professional stuff?

Is there anything you wish you did before starting medical school?

Does anyone feel fully ready to start medical school classes? I mean like feel like they have an edge ahead of everyone?

I don't start school until August. I research for a biotech company full time. I am quitting in June JUST so I can have a couple of months to go on adventures.

I suggest you take advantage of your precious time off.

I'm working FT in clinical research, getting married in a few months, trying to eat better and exercise more, and working on other research projects. Should have a few publications by time I move!

Go read my post on guide to Medical Student Success

Personally, I got through college wearing mostly gym shorts and frat tees. While the school i got into does not have a dress code idk if my professors will respect me wearing a "FRATTIN SINCE 56'" sleeveless. I've been going working on relaxed grown up clothes (jeans, khakis polos, normal t-shirts). Some schools have certain days where you have to wear your white coat. I am working on having at least 5 solid business casual outfits that can interchange.

Can't help there I am an MS-0 (Don't yell at me SDN i'm joking). From most people they suggested understand what-time of day you are most attentive. Early birds, night owls we all have certain times of day we are most productive. Use your time most effectively.

Not at all. Anybody that feels they have an "edge" is smoking something.

Relax, look into possible traveling opportunities, finish school off strong (or at least pass those last classes if you are in undergrad), complete background checks/immunizations for the school, and get excited!!

Guys, stay on topic please.

OP there have been tons of threads started on this.

Work, play, travel, enjoy...

Do things that make you happy because once school starts it might be a couple of weeks before you remember what it feels like.

Play with yo-self foo.

Don't take anymore classes. The last thing you want to do is burn yourself out before school starts. Also, what happens if you slip up in one of them???

Enjoy your free time. You will have PLENTY of Anatomy and Histology once medical school starts.

If you've graduated from college/uni and going to medical school I'd think you better have figured this out by now.

You'd be surprised at how many people actually don't know this.
