Weird Extra-Curriculars?

Hey guys,

One of my friends is applying to medical school this year and had a question to those who already applied (he was too lazy to register for this site and wait to be able to post)... He's a senior and will be graduating in June with about a 3.45 gpa (MCAT next week). He's had about 2500 hours of community service - some that stem from his being a police officer. About 300 hours were health care related but all were helping the general welfare of the community. Do you think that with an average GPA and a state-school education he'll have a chance at getting accepted (he also has a great personality and will do well in interviews) despite his out of the ordinary extra curriculars and no research experience? Any info would be great. Thanks in advance.

unique ec's are always good. it makes you stand out from all the other people applying. if the rest of the application is good, there is a good chance of getting into med school. if he really wants to be a doc, he should definetely go all out to get into school.
