just wondering if this happened to any of you/if you know what it means...

i interviewed at loyola in early march (for the waitlist). on that day they told us that our file would go to review again on march 31st (this upcoming monday) and that we would receive a letter soon thereafter letting us know if we made it onto the waitlist or were rejected. anyway, last night (friday) they called my house ( i wasn't home) and told my mom that my file was up for review on monday and they needed to have my ACT and SAT scores!?!? that's fine i guess...but why do you think they waited so long to ask me for them...and what in the world do you think they'll use them for? any ideas??

thanks.

hey choppa,
that's really funny! they didn't ask me for that, but then my interviews went rather poorly so i'm fully expecting to be rejected. i have NO idea why they would ask for those. maybe to boost your app if your mcat was low? no idea, but good luck!

i didn't apply to loyola but i still hope this helps. When i filled out my secondary for jefferson med school, they asked for SAT scores too. they said it was used to determine how an applicant generally does on standardized tests, i think they realize that some smart pple generally don't do good on standadized tests, so they could be more lenient with those pple.

Choppa,

I interviewed at a state school, and they also requested my ACT or SAT scores. When asking my interviewer...they use it as a comparison on standardized tests in reflection of the MCAT (just as bennet stated), but he also stated that low MCAT scores will often be balanced or explained by ACT/SAT scores especially in the case of grade and standardized score differences.

Good luck!

turtle...

thanks for your input. after thinking about it for a little while i sort of came to that conclusion myself. i guess it makes sense...my mcat score was nothing to write home about and if it is the case that that's why they're using it...then i guess my act and sat scores will fall somewhere in line with that...not exceptional....but above average. i'm hoping that that will show them that i just don't usually perform exceptionally well on standardized tests. what do you think? do you think act/sat scores that are about the same (or actually a little better as far as percentile ranks are concerned) would be in my favor? i figure at least none of them are out of this world good...what do you think?

thanks! 😕 😕 😕 😕

Choppa,

I do believe, according to the admissions committeman I spoke to, that act/sat scores showing a higher percentile would be in your favor. If the scores are not higher comparable to the MCAT score, but grades were significantly higher than it would show standardized tests are not your cup of tea...mine either! I know in my case, my MCAT did not reflect my 4.0 g.p.a., but the act/sat scores were actually closer to the realm than the MCAT. All aside, I believe that admissions committees realize that one bad test day could send the MCAT score out of control, so they try to "sum" up the person as a whole...of course, this is not for all medical schools. Personally, I feel that since they called you for more information that is a positive sign!!! Good Luck! 🙂

dude! loyola is weird as hell.. they sent me a letter asking if i would be willing to interview on lake shore at 3 in the morning. i was told to come dressed in overalls and a t-shirt i wasn't worried about "dirtying"... oh, and "comfortable shoes"... anyways, I was in chicago for two other interviews at the time (which went great!) and so i decided that since i was living on lake shore anyways, it was cool- i went there... I sat on the beach for about seven minutes before a ratty looking travestite wearing a t-shirt that said, "Respect Mah Authoritor" showed up, threw sand in my face, did some weird ass dance, and sprinted in the other direction. i can only assume that was my rejection, since I have not heard from loyola since.

wait, moops...what the hell?

you can't be serious? or am i just really gullable? for some reason that just doesn't sound possible. care to explain any further? in any case, loyola is finished discussing me. so, my fate is sealed in an envelope somewhere in chicago. i'm really interested to hear more about your experience. and for real, are you being serious?

Now THAT is some funny shiat!

hmmmm, I never took the SAT/ACT's, I wonder what a school would think about that if they asked for them?
